Doctor Who is a pretty decent game, that draws from his subject matter a great deal to please fans. The Time Expander is the main draw of the game, but there are many different point strategies that involve the entire playfield which is good. Audio is lacking a bit and the animations aren't very good compared to Addams Family or other games of the time. The lastability is also an issue as the ruleset isn't hugely deep with no 'modes' persay, just different shots that can be utilized. All in all, a fun game, but not a game changer.

Based on the long running TV show, this machine features the original Doctors from the shows run. Maybe it is time for a mod to add the current incarnations or even a new table from Stern? Anyways, the rules are deep and each Doctor has his own abilities and goals. Take the time to learn the rules and strategies and it opens up the game to the next level.

game gets dull in my opinion. very few shots. Very good sound and the time expander is cool gimmick

My #6 On my Top Picks. This is a great game. I loved playing it and continue to play it!

This was my first pinball machine and is one I've never even considered trading or selling. I was lucky that when I got Dr. Who was not well known in the US (though I've been a fan since the early 1980's). It is a great game that interweaves the theme in perfectly. The music is outstanding. It has several routes to winning that encompases various playstyles. Overall an excellent game.

Those not very familiar with the TV series can still enjoy the game.

Doctor Who was a severe disappointment because the theme and art drew me in only to give me a water-down PIN*BOT experience with the machine's Dalek voice driving me insane the whole time. There aren't many great shots to the game and the overall play is fairly dull, which is manageable when the sound is off. But the sounds made me run away after a few tries and I don't think I'll even torture myself with a Doctor Who again.

The "time expander" is cool, but the rest of the game including the layout, rules, art, theme, and sound design are a big disappointment. Probably my least favourite DMD game.

great fun game that I play regularly (even with 14 other machines) just wish they had used any other doctor to the the speech...

Very unique game with several strategy options. The rules can seem simple at first but as you learn it you will find yourself trapping up to consider strategy. I thought I had this game all figured out an mastered but a slight change to the difficulty settings put an end to that.
Outlanes can be harsh with no rubber post to nudge off of, controlled play is key. The Time Expander is one of the best toys in pinball and always surprises new players.
Sound is great especially with a sub, lots of bass on this machine! The yelling Dalek does annoy the wife from 2 floors away though..

The Music is fantastic! Game play is Great and a lot of fun. On my top 3 list for sure I can't wait to add one to our collection.

Come play it for the theme and some of the unique features of the table. Being a beginner, I would say that there is a lot going on and that there may be easier pins to pick up.

I could see for really good pinball players this game would get boring quick but for us average Joes it is a great balance of risk-vs-reward. The select a doctor adds an interesting dynamic to gameplay and people still debate 25 years after it was released what is the best strategy.

This game is wierd, but in a good way. I'm a bit of a sucker for side ramps, and this one has the best side ramp in the buisness. You better get locked into it as well because putting up a decent score on this game requires you shoot it A LOT. The WHO combo is very fun to shoot. I tend to stay away from the Time Expander in the upper middle portion of the game, but big scores are also possible using the Multiball strategy.

I never got into the Dr Who thing, but the artwork is great and if you are a fan of the show then i am sure you will love the art, theme, sound, backglass, etc.

The rules are really freakin weird on this game, but a great machine overall.

disappointing backglass, playfield average, you could do much better

If you don't like the callouts, this game could be really obnoxious during multiball. However, if you do, it's really exciting. The loop shot timing is a little tricky but can pay off. Great game.

Not a bad game but not enough going on. Not for me.

What a great game! I really like the giant Time Expander reminds me a little of Pinbot center lock accept this one is on steroids with three levels.

Just purchased my first Dr Who on the weekend having never played the table before. They are getting really collectable in Australia and this one was in beautiful condition and a very fair price so took the plunge.

To say I'm glad I did is an understatement. This game Rocks. Amazing Flow and the Fun Factor is through the roof. I don't think I have ever played a game with more one more go appeal. The reason for this in MHO is the games simplicity. Having only one mode (video) really helps focus the player around scoring. For most games in my collection the final score I post is secondary to my overall enjoyment but with the Dr its front and center. This makes the game refreshing and a great addition to a larger collection. I really love having a clear strategy and idea of how I am going to play the game from the outset and then getting to work executing that plan. As such I think it would be a great game to build your skills for Tournament Pinball. Yes it could be said that any game can be approach with a scoring strategy but with the Dr it just feels right, to focus rather then explore.

In many ways the game layout and design reminds me more of a modern Stern but with the build quality and artwork of Bally/Williams. The Time expander is a blast and really brings the game to life. Even the Video Mode most of which were awful from this error is a blast.

A very very underrated game in my opinion and one that is ready for a major revival. I have played almost every game in the Top 50 and own a number of much higher ranked tables and this deserves to be up there with the best. Easily Top 30.

Would recommend for anyone that loves a fast, smooth playing experience. Wouldn't have it in a single collection as I think it works best as a break from other more mode focussed tables.

Doctor who looks fun? at first glance. Only one thing to shoot at. Gets boring fast. Not well thought out design. Overated for sure.

Underrated classic. Most collectors do not catch on of what this game has to offer until the have been in the hobby for a while, and then realize they want one for their collection. Several abused shots reduce the challenge, hence go for multiball. Not all the best games have to be the late model WMS/BLY SS machines. Much better than games like TOTAN, NGG, NF, and many others with more flash in the pan than straightforward game play, because its stacking scoring is solid. Certainly better than games like Stern's "Family Guy". Geez, collectors wake up!

If you want a "wobble head" prototype kit, get the REAL one from Basement Arcade, not the cheap knock off. They are still available if you want to buy one.

Old Simple 2005 Review:
"EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! The doctor must be destroyed!" A game with an original three level mini playfield and fun loopable orbit.

When I played Doctor Who on location I would go video mode all day, which I think is a valid strategy. It leads to LOOOOOOONG games though, like 45-60 minutes on a great game! It's an easy, safe shot but takes forever to get any scoring done. When someone taught me about playfield multiplying sonic booms I felt like an idiot. My games were 10 times shorter and my scores were the same. The sonic boom gives a great sound effect that really makes you feel like you're hitting a high scoring shot. The whole dead end to upper flipper loops to right ramp to dead end combo is one of the best feeling repeatable combos in pinball.

As a DW fan, I love this game. Really played the heck out of it during college and was really happy to finally buy one. Good game. To have a high scoring game you have to combine the three main scoring elements: multiball, video mode, and loops/WHO combos. The game does focus too much on video mode, and the loops to increase playfield multiplier are repetitive, but nothing's perfect. Getting to Davros counts as a wizard mode, if difficulty is set high enough. He has tons of speech and really taunts you as you try to attack him! As for the rest of the game, though, sound is not so great. The Daleks and theme music get repetitive. No bass in the audio, so a subwoofer won't improve it. And there's a volume bug that causes it to increase volume over time...!
