An average offering in the Gottlieb wedgehead 2-inch flipper series. This is a gobble-hole game which is a bit of a drag in the home environment where the trade-off for losing a ball in order to get a free game isn't as intense as it was back when these games were on location. At least the gobbles are positioned at the far edges of the game, instead of smack in the middle, so they can be avoided, to a certain extent. This is a number collection game, based on rollovers, that can also be collected at the centre split standup target. The centre stand-up "sucker shot" hit it's high watermark with Flipper Clown, but is also used here for decent effect. I'm in the minority when I declare that Roy Parker's artwork isn't all that its cracked up to be, but I don't think he created a more beautiful and appealing playfield, with two pin-up girls set upon a silver checkerboard. Gameplay is average, with an above average art package.

Fantastic artwork on this game. Not difficult to win replays as collecting 6 'white' girls or 6 'red' girls earns replay. All 12 and chance for 3 in gobble hole. Nice flow, and very fast gameplay.

The downside is the unbalanced scoring in that scoring over 1000 points is incredibly hard as not enough big points available. Only one pop bumper lit at any one time to earn 10 points. If you could light all 3 at the same time, this game would instantly be top 3 of the 1960's.

Considering its age, this is a game that I've had for over 30 years. Surprisingly, children like playing this ol' game. Especially with the submarine loader. They give them a 5 ball multi-ball game that usually goes quite quickly for them. But, the charm is what keeps us coming back for me.

Getting the 50 point center shot rollover skill shot is the best way to beat the game. Once you get that, lighting the 12 cover girls make it easier to win. All and all...a nostalgic and fun pin.

The first time I played this game it left me kind of cold. then I played it several times recently and the game played really well. Fast and slick, the theme and artwork is great, the pattern on the playfield is a bit over-worked, the girls lighting up on the back glass a great touch. All in all a skillful players game which if it good shape makes for a fun enjoyable game.

Cover Girl is one of those games that you just don't see that often.

The Pros:
A solid layout that makes the most of a layout that requires long and short shots all over the table. The Calendar Girl theme is well integrated into the BG. When rollovers are scored, the corresponding pin-up girl lights up on the BG! Roy Parker really knew how to render a showgirl. Playing the game is where this deck shines. Do you shoot for the lanes and let the ball roll around? Do you shoot for the center target? Is your aim good enough to hit the desired side or right in the center to light both sides of the 1-6 ladder and the corresponding ladies? I usually don't like games with gobble holes, but the 50-100-150 point shots on this game are balanced out quite well with the scoring scheme on this table. The 6 birds just over the score reel on the BG crack me up! The old crow ogling the young woman on the left with his Binoculars is hilarious.

The Cons:
The checkered background pattern on the PF and the BG is hard on the eyes. Ouch!

The Takeaway:
One of Wayne Neyens's better playing designs from the early 60's. I usually give a Parker art pax high marks, but this one falls short with the busier than it should be graphics.
