Corvette is Gomez’s first ever design, and it’s interesting to see how it shaped him as a designer!

Pro’s:

What an amazing layout! The shots flow amazingly together, and the rules further support that by making everything combo based, from modes and multiballs to the actual combo’s getting progressively valuable over a ball!

Sound is exceptionally well done. An admirable effort from Paul Heitsch.

Art is well done over all! In particular, the color choice is very pleasing to the eyes, and the game looks great with Warm LED’s.

Toys, including the interactive engine and racing toy cars, are neat and add a bit to the game overall. The kickback (if you consider that a toy) is also genius, and fits into the rules and layout perfectly.

Con’s:

The center spinner is pointless and really did not need to be put in the game. While the right ramp is a fun shot, it can also be very deadly (which I love, but some may consider a design flaw) and typically can’t be shot from a trap.

Game heavily favors multiball modes in terms of objective multiball points, as well as the points you get from combos. Meanwhile, the modes themselves are worth much less.

Wizard mode doesn’t require that much to get, and the game is overall fairly shallow (even for its time).

It might seem odd I gave this game such a high rating when it does do some things wrong, but what it does right it does extremely well.

Owned this game for a couple of months while restoring it.

Plays fast. Very hectic and unique-in-small-detail layout for it's time. Tight spinner-shot into bumpers is a bit weird, and the route 66 ramp feels unorthodox to shoot. The ZR-5 ramp (or orbit) to upper-flipper skidpad combo is very fun. It is very easy to brick shots on this game tho.

This game is outlane heavy, as the inner- and outer lanes are very tight. This makes multiballs last really short, and hard (as the shots needed to get jackpots are quite hard). The positive part of this, is how it makes the kickback (keeping it lit) a important part of the game.

I like the visuals of this game, very red-yellow but still detailed art.

This game really lacks in the rule and sound department.

The rules are not deep, and each mode seems very disjointed from each other. No real sense of 'progression', even though you are collecting cars. You keep repeating the same couple of modes over and over to get to the wizard mode (do a race, do a route 66 (hit marked shots in order), do one of the two multiballs). Scoring big felt unsatisfying...

The sound is a big turn-off for me. The music is very repetitive, almost no musical variation between modes and the main theme sounds like a very short soundloop. The calls are also mediocre, the fake-deep voice announcer is okay but there are only a few call-outs. The route 66 women are fun tho.

Fast, fun layout. Not a great theme, but utilized well.

Did not like it at the begining. I had to spend a week to understand the game. I am enjoying it right now. I will probably keep in my collection next mine Getaway High Speed II.

Just not a big fan of this one. A lot of racing games fall flat for me due to the greatness of HSII & this is just another victim

My uncle has this game and I used to play the crap out of it. I always liked the racing mechanism along the right side and it’s fun and tense to race the car. The theme doesn’t do much for me, and it has lots of engine revving sounds, but all in all this will always be a favorite game of mine.

Had this game for about 6 months, didn't like playfield design. The main feature covers too much of the top of playfield. What it has going for it is the theme.

Ok, I don't comment much but this machine really surprised me after 5 years, yes 5 years of ownership!
I can say this machine definitely reaches the list of most underrated pinball machines.

I played it a bit after restoring one and it seemed easy and I reached Future car in just a couple of games played.
Turned me over and then I started hating it because of “no really depth” so I just never played it much. Just casually.

But then.. the kids grew and started playing it. It became one of their favorites. I joined.

Damn. I was hooked as soon as I figured out more way to play it. I never tried to really understand the machine!
You know when you play a machine and just reach a couple of billions,... jackpots and just points from scoring stuff and completing modes. You think you know it, but that's not the case with this machine.
I never understood, actually, I underestimated the depth of this George Gomez's FIRST pinball machine!

When you challenge yourself to collect the CARS. Yes, the different models of cars in the middle of the playfield. 9 in total with the Future Car final mode as the 10th car and you know that you get it from beating the drag race on the right when starting Pit mode.
But when you figure out where and how you get the cars is where it gets fun!

There are 3 on the 3 locks (but only on the first lock/multiball) which makes the game harder with progress. There’s a couple on the modes, but not every mode, and when you learn and remember which modes are next in line you start to think about how to get there!
There are no easy extra balls!
The loops. Oh, the loops. They are amazing and you can stack up some good points there.
As soon as you loop via engine or right orbit to either upper loop or the top ramp you bump up the combo value. If you are really good at this you can bring this up to some serious points and it is so nice when you are above 60-70 million PER COMBO you just decide (math -> risk/reward equation) you focus on this and reach the cap on 99 million per combo. When you know this and understand that it also counts during multiballs you actually start the multiball to get those capped value combos out!

The kickback! How good you can incorporate the kickback in your play. For me there’s no other machine like this one. It’s so valuable to keep it active. Every time you lose it when the ball drains in the left outlane just focus on getting the kickback active again on the right (red target). The play style, how you arrange your shots, and if the machine is dialed well, you can have some good control not to get any ricochets into the “exposed” right outlane.
If you have a risky shot to hit, like the right ramp. Just try to lock the ball to get one free shot at it!
Yes, lock it in the engine ramp (where the second multiball requires a left loop first and then lock and the third one times out after left loop, so you need to be quick which is another detail to make the game harder during progress). One you lock any ball, you get to plunge a ball and a short plunge without touching a switch will give you a free shot! This machine requires 4 switches to validate the ball.
Again, when you use this to power up you play it’s another layer of game depth that kind of comes organically.
Focusing on getting as many cars is challenging and fun also for an experienced player.
If you play it that way, you learn when you get them and once you get past the Future car (10th car) it gets really hard to get more. It’s twice as hard to get from 10 to 20 than from 0 to 10 cars.
The modes on the right ramp are nice and on some you get cars awarded. The “Catch me if you can” mode is one of the best modes in any pinball machine where there are 4 shots required in exact order. You don’t complete it by randomly shooting around. You need to stop and pay attention where exactly required shot is lit and the reward - a new car + multiball where the ball in the loops is set to stop at the bumpers because it’s “hit a switch for points” (plain multiball) but the depth here is that you can boost up your bonus multiplier which is on top of the playfield above the jet bumpers. You again play this mode for something else because it becomes more valuable.
Then.. get your cars early because each car is 10 million in bonus (but not multipliable because the programmer and pinball designer figured out this would be too much so everything else is multipliable but the cars) and you still get some good point on your 3-4 ball play if you get to your high number of cars early. Also important to know at tournaments.
Anyway, it’s so much to write about this machine and I wanted to express this here because I owned the machine and never understood that it’s so good also because there was really no one describing this depth to me.

The smoothness of the play, the ramps, the loops, the speed while still being in control.
This is why you return to play more.

My uncle used to have this game in the early 2000’s, and it was something I looked forward to whenever we went over. Loved the attention to detail on the playfield for the theme, and loved the car race on the right side of the table. Very cool machine overall.

Played a few times at Pinball Republic in London.

I really quite enjoyed Corvette. The revving engine in the corner and the little cars that you need to race add fun and variety. I had fun with the multiballs and ‘hitting the flipper’ video modes.

A decent pin :)

Being a long-time Corvette owner, it's the perfect theme for me. Just wish is was a bit deeper.

Fun game. Not very challenging. Being an early 90s game trying to complete with video games it has a few “hit the button as fast as you can” video modes, meh. I don’t think it’s great as a few games of its era(AF, Fish Tales, ect), but it still a good game.

Wanted this for a while. What a great fun game to play. The racetrack is awesome and it has great sound and animations. Really done understand why this game doesn’t rank a lot higher as it’s fantastic.

neighbor just picked up this game and I've been able to play it a few times. The drag race toy is fun. The middle of the field is a bit dark but with some spotlights or pinstadium lights that will be good. The flow of the game is fun.

Great playing pin. Has some really cool toys with the cars and engine block. It shoots awesome and has a great layout for the flow. I am surprised how low this ranks. Maybe mine was setup really well but I enjoyed shooting this pin. I dont know how you cant love hit the ramps.

Corvette is packed.
On one hand you could say it’s fast and furious and benefits from being a standard body despite feeling crowded (although having a little breathing room would be nice)
On the other hand you could say it has so much stuff that it should have been a wide body pin (but this would make the game feel slower I think)
Either way you’re not really wrong.
It’s a standard body that feels great when you’re hitting the shots but super clunky if you’re not.
Decent animations but nothing outstanding.
Music is okay but not great.
I have a really nice one and can’t see myself selling it.

I waited 4 months of owning this game to review. Yes the most underated game on pinside. Never gets old and my first go to. I think where this game drops in ratings is the sound and speech. Why the foreign ladies to race against, irish mechanic? Just doesn't fit the american classic car theme and audiance. I thought I would hate the music at first but don't even notice it now.
I plan on keeping this game much longer than I intended even after I beat it and seeing the hidden car in the backglass. My wife owns a C4 and this pin captures the spirit and engine power perfectly. The LT5 engine lock, many ramps with easy to understand objectives makes this game scream freedom and adventure just like a real corvette.

What To Look For When Buying
* That both the engine and race track work as they should

This game really captures the corvette car theme very well, it’s a fast exciting game very underrated I have sold higher ranking machines I found boring compared to the corvette. It’s also a very attractive machine with great features like the lt5 motor and the drag strip definitely a machine for the more experienced player and corvette enthusiast

I consider this the third decent car race game from the nineties. The other two beeing I500 and Getaway.

The gameplay is actually very good and quite addictive. The shots are fast and offer a greater variety than Getaway with clever programming and different scoring strategies. As with any other good racing-game there is a great "one-more-game"-feel to this pinball table.

There are however also a few things about Corvette that puts it in clear second position compared to Getaway.
It is a rather ugly game. That goes for both playfield, cab and backglass. Uninspired and dull.
The art from Dan Hughes, who also did I500 and a few more obscure titles, is a disappointment. Unfortunately this is also is true for the main playfield features; the ramps and the shaker. It all looks like dimestore toys - and not in a good way…..
This let-down is not helped by the fact that many of those upper playfield structures are blocking the view of the ball play.

The most positive feature among the playfield gadgets is a matchbox-sized racetrack with two cars that compete on the right side. Making the lit shoots will advance your car and get you more points.

Further weak points that keep me from giving this game higher rating is the uninspired lighting and lack of more spectacular flasher effects. For a 1994 game this feels a little tame in that respect. The sound package is acceptable, but nothing above average and certainly a tad onesided.

Summary: ugly and poorly lit (which maybe is a good thing :-), but fast, fun and addictive.

I love playing this game. Being a car guy it’s a fun theme and a very challenging game with some trick shots chasing down certain orders of shots too
