Congo is one of the weaker WPC-95 games.

The layout is very good and I especially like the erupting Volcano as well as the Grey Gorilla lower playfield. The most satisfying shots are the Volcano shot with the upper flipper and the left ramp. In general this is one of the WPC-95 machines with the most flow.

The rules are good although I think the game gets repetitive quicker than other WPC-95 games.

The artwork is good and especially the playfield is nice to look at. The backglass and cabinet look a bit subpar in comparison to other games of this generation. But they're still looking good.

Overall this is a very unique, flowy and fun game. It will appeal mostly to beginners and casual players in my opinion.

I love this machine. The movie was forgettable but the machine tells a great story. There are shots all over the playfield and hitting the volcano is very rewarding, as you need to thread the needle through the bumpers. Gray Attack isn't much of a challenge and the plastic window to the lower playfield can alter the roll of the ball above. I really enjoy the music and the callouts, and they do a great job immersing you into the jungle world. Congo is a beast.

Finally got to play one on location and had a blast. Didn't really know anything about it when I walked up to it, so it was truly a cold first play. Fun shots, good pace, neat subfield with the gorilla. Good pin

I think Congo is one of the best layouts from the 90's DMD era. The rules are clear and fun, but not very deep and it doesn't take too long before you're able to consistently collect 100 diamonds and get to the "wizard mode", which is what caused me to sell it after being able to get through the code more often than not.

BUT I MISS THE GAME. Great music, awesome shots and flow, and fun callouts from Tim Curry and Ernie Hudson. I never minded the lower playfield. It was a 5 second break and back up top. Once you find the Volcano shot, you feel so good. Just talking about it makes me wish I had room for more than 4 games so I could have kept it. Maybe someday I'll find another Congo. This and BSD may be the two underdog stars of B/W's DMDs. Great, now I gotta buy that one for a third time too...

Edit: I bought my old Congo back and a ton of parts to turn it into a really nice player's condition. It plays amazing and looks as good as it could without a total restore. What a game!

And 3 months later, sold it again. But I still think about it. If I had room for 10 games...

I just realize I’ve had Congo for 20 years, and never rated it! I’ve sold a lot of B/W games since then, including WH2O, Shadow, TZ, NGG and JM. There’s just something about how fun Congo is to shoot that makes me reluctant to sell it, even for a newer Stern. I recently added a CC (remake) to the collection. I think CC is a little better in the rules department, but I love the music and theming of Congo.

Strangely, I like Tim Curry’s callouts in Congo, while I hated them in Shadow. “The journey has left me shaken”. Best bad movie pin ever? I loved JM too, I just couldn’t handle the maintenance on the glove.

I bought this one NIB for 3999$CAN back in 1998 ... that was my first NIB. Didn't kept it long. Layout is good and there is some nice shots but but as a whole, this is not a great experience. It looks like this game was made in a hurry to fit the moment the movie hit the market.

Music is lacking, call outs are just average, cabinet is bland and uninteresting, animations are below average ... the Amy gimmick (under playfield) is great to look at but not so fun to play with.

Ruleset is pretty shallow. I had a pretty good time for a couple weeks because there is really some great shots there, geometry and playfield design is quite nice but I got bored of it pretty fast.

Fun for new players. My kids and I enjoyed this one. Cool that there's a sub level. It's a bit dark. Surprisingly really fun considering it's based on a movie that isn't incredibly popular. The art and display is good for the 90's. A solid adventure game with great shots.

A game that really grown on me when I finally put time into understanding the gameplay, nice theme and th left upper flipper always feels great to use and easy to handle compared to some other games. The skills shot us always satisfying (the left outlane one). Great game and theme. When I find it at a good current price I will get one.

Game was fast paced and easy to internalize quickly. Mountain shot proved to be very frustrating, but its possible machine I was on was aged to point it was harder than from factory. I really like the back glass on this unit and the many colors used, it stands out.

This is one of the good games based on a Movie you haven’t seen or quickly forgot games, like The Shadow and Johnny Nmemonic.

Even though the game revolves around diamonds, airplanes and monkeys for whatever reason(game design I guess) it is pretty good. Has many interesting shots, definitely worth a few plays. As far as the market goes, the secret is out and this game commands more than its worth in my opinion.

I played this game In rough shape at one of the local pinball museums and liked it so much I bought one and was pleasantly surprised how much better it was playing the game when it was in much better condition. The right hand mountain shot is tough to get the extra ball.

Congo is a fast, fun, easy to understand game that is quite impressive. The only subpar thing about the machine is the theme (and maybe the colors). If you can get past that, you'll find a game layout and rules that are as fun as any other game of the era.

I really like this game…. I added a few lights under the volcano and replaced all bulbs with LED’s to brighten up the playfield but that’s basically it… this game flows really well and the call outs are spot on … truly a family game …. Just a shame that the movie was so bad as that rep had to be overcome..

For so long they were beaten up as a MM donor machine. A classic by trudeau.

The ramp shot is easy, but makes for massive fun in MB. Obviously not a mode based, to a degree its all about MBs. A great shooter with Tron style left upper flipper shots, although there are two potential shots from here. Theme I dont care for. Mini "wizard" modes are fun. All in all one of the best from the 90s from BW and far more fun to me than other new titles. A keeper.
