This is one of the most beautiful games Gottlieb ever produced. The backglass and playfield art are simply incredibly! Gordon Morrison truly outdid himself with this one.

But while it is the best looker of the mid-to-late 1970's era of Gottlieb, it is not the best player. The bagatelle lanes on the right side are copied from Atlantis (which copied them from "Sheriff"). IMO they work better as the sequence advancer in Atlantis than they do as a temperature advancer here. Same with the standup targets on the right side. On the left side of the playfield, there are just 4 drop targets and one rollover lane. (As opposed to 10 drop targets and a 5,000 point payout for hitting two adjacent targets.) So there's not much you can hit with the right flipper. In my opinion, Atlantis did a lot more with a very similar playfield layout, and is the superior game.

Only 1,600 of them were made, so it is hard to find. I've had the chance to buy it a couple of times, but just can't pull the trigger. I already own Atlantis. Do I really want two games that are that similar? If I was just going to turn it on and look at it, then maybe yes. But not for the price that people are asking for it.

I expected more, some em machines play better than centgrade. Nice machine but its definitely not worth current market values.

But its a prized machine for many

I finally added a completely restored C37 to my collection and it did not disappoint. I really can’t find one bad thing to write about the game. One of the best looking EM’s out there. Extremely fun to shoot and work towards raising the temperature ribbon. Many said the D left outer orbit is all luck but I can hit it pretty consistently from the right flipper. Tough shot but very satisfying. This game is a solid 10/10 for me. I’m absolutely loving it as my first EM. Definitely not my last.

Recently picked up a C37, was looking for this title for 6 years, a game that does not become available very often so I was lucky to get this game considering. After playing this game daily since owning it I could honestly say it was worth the wait. The right side bagatelle lanes is where all the points are, get the A,B,C,D put the ball in play there and watch the points rack up, this game will be staying in my collection for a very long time.

Not a bad game but not as good as neptune or abra or as desirable as atlantis.

Layout is ok. I find this machine vastly over priced often.

Other ems play better for the money. But i get the collector aspect

Great game. Probably a top 10 EM for me and I am a bigger fan of Williams reverse wedge heads but this is just plain fun. Cool theme, animated BG and great variation of shots. A real winner.

Not one of my favorite single player Gottliebs that I've owned, didn't keep it that long and it was practically unused. It basically plays like a multiplayer with everything resetting with each ball except the thermometer. The thermometer is the big draw and a cool one and most objectives on the playfield are about advancing it. And the Atlantis-type rollover lanes on the right are cool. Just kind of felt like a single player... that wasn't.

I played this in an arcade. Although it wasn’t in great shape I couldn’t stop playing it. I’d love to find one for my collection.

Centigrade 37 is one of my favorite EM games. I love the artwork and the "thermometer" scoring makes for an interesting objective.

I find EM games hard to rate in general since I have to "forget" everything I know about modern pinball. That being said, I can safely say that this is an EM game I would actually play today. I enjoy trying to fill up the thermometer and the pin is great to look at.

Wonderful theme, certainly to be a piece of art in any collection!

Very colorful game! The mechanical thermometer in the backglass is pretty cool. Overall a very easy machine to beat. I have a near collectors quality machine so game play is like it was designed to be out of the box. I huge collectors machine. Didn't make too many of them. Incorporates the bagatelle feature that was popular with so many Gottliebs like Atlantis, Lawman, and C37. Great machine for the novice player for sure. Artwork is a bit bizarre, but flows well with the machine.

I love this table, it ticks all the boxes for me. Very attractive art package and both fun, easy and challenging all at the same time. Rolling it over and getting the 100,000 light isn’t too hard, but it is satisfying seeing the light come on, getting to 200,000 is a bit harder but achievable...however getting the thermometer to reach the top is very hard indeed, kinda like the wizard mode in a modern game. I have installed a flashing led in the backglass at the top of the experiment tube so when the thermometer gets to 100% and the light comes on it flashes.

Right up There with Atlantis, Jacks open and Card whiz in my humble opinion. Top 5 playing game of all time and top 3 artwork of all time.

A top Gottlieb Wedgehead! Not the best (Abra Ca Dabra/Team One, El Dorado, Surfer, Jacks Open all better), but works for me.

Bagatelle on the right detracts some of the fun, but the playfield art, backglass and thermometer are all outstanding.

Collectible game for sure. Get it for the crazy artwork!

I just finished installing a new playfield in my C37, and put in about 20 games. I’ll compare it to Abra Ca Dabra (which I own) and Strange World (which I foolishly sold).

Art: the playfield is perfection, and the backglass is great if you don’t look too closely at the scientist. As a friend said, she just looks a little...off. I’d rank C37 behind ACD and SW on art. But it’s Gordon Morrison, and the art is better than 90% of the pins of this era. It looks nice in a room.

Layout: C37 shoots well. It’s tough to get the ball back to the ABCD rollovers, and the kick out hole at the top is surprisingly difficult. The bagatelle is lucrative but also dangerous and there are an few ways to lose the ball, one being in the middle of the the run. I’d rank the layout a tie with ACD and SW. Ball times are about normal, and it’s plenty challenging to keep the ball in play.

Rules: this is where C37 is a little disappointing. If you’re playing in a competition, you should know that the thermometer “advances” are worth 0 points. You’ll get 5k for every lit white circle, whether “Double Advance” is lit or not. The game could have been so much better if the thermometer counted down as bonus at the end of the game. When we play this in league, I’ll tell players to add 25K points if they fill up the thermometer and light special. That will make it worth going for. Setting the thermometer aside, scoring is heavily weighted toward the bagatelle. A perfect run is 20k points, and on average it’s worth 10k. By contrast the drops are always 500 (unless I’m missing something). The game would be better balanced if the lit white circles were worth 1000 each, instead of 5000.

I hate to end on a down note. C37 is still a lot of fun to play, and completing the thermometer is a fun goal on its own. It’s just no match for games like ACD and SW, which reward strategic shooting.

So regret selling this game. Super fun to play with great EM rules. Loved the animation in the BG and was always a big Gordon Morison fan, and this was one of my favorites.

The playfield layout leads to several challenging shots, utilized at different times in the game. You have the skill plunge for the top ABC rollovers which increase the bonus advance opportunity for the drop targets, and iuncrease the scoring for the kick out hole special.

You have a D rollover which can be hit with a difficult shot from the right flipper.

You have the challenge to hit all four drops, and then activate an alternating target on the right side to enable 2x advance bonus mode.

You have another target shot to reset the drops.

You have the bagetelle style lanes on the right which are mainly for progressing the bonus advance.

Progressing the bonus, takes the temperature to the top, which triggers the special.

The layout for the flippers also promotes post passes, and a risky catch on the right side for a drain.

One of, if not the best art packages of any pinball.

This is a really fun game with a quirky theme (like all the best EMs!). The goal is simple enough, but the gameplay will challenge your skills. If you think EMs aren't your thing, try this game and think again.
