I read on a local action website, that there was a 78 Close Encounters pin "That needed Restore" in my area...I went to check it out. I looked like the poor thing sat outside for ten years, missing boards The MPU had acid damage, 2inchs of dirt and mold, no legs, no lock bar, the backglass was surprisingly in amazing shape. It smelled so bad, mold all over the inside cab. it was aweful. Here are a few pics, sorry i didnt stay to see how much it went for, but would have cost more to restore then when it was NIB.

Ment to say...would have cost more to restore then when it was NIB.

Probably kept in a garage or shed, it's a dam shame.

#3 12 years ago

Looks like a total loss, maybe a few worthy parts left. That would truly be a labor of love to restore.

#4 12 years ago

That is a damn shame! That poor pin!

#5 12 years ago

Looks like something that just came out of KME's "climate-controlled" storage.

people that treat pins like that have just been added to my list of those who will be going to special hell.you know, the really bad part of hell reserved for pedophiles, people who talk and or text during movies and people who abuse/neglect pinball machines.

Plastics look good!

#10 12 years ago

gosh what was wrong with the guy?

#11 12 years ago

A bottle or two of novus #2 and a couple rolls of paper towels and that'd be a nice pin. At least it doesn't look like its been on fire.

#12 12 years ago

except the boards.. that's the deal killer.

Tha's just sad!

Holy Schnikes!

#16 11 years ago

ant they still tried to sell it ??
I wouldn't even touch that thing let alone put it into my car and bring it home!

#17 11 years ago

Perfect garden art...
Slap some rusty legs on it, put the backbox back on and enjoy the view.
If that doesn't work you could always gut it and use it as a raised planter for herbs or insanely hot peppers. It would be sweet to see a row of these in your backyard with different veggies and such.
Don't take this the wrong way,
It still pains me to see a pin in this state... Not as bad as NY mayor "La Douchia's" reign of terror back in the 40's mind you, but still- pretty sad.

#18 11 years ago

Definitely wouldn't want to bring that into a home with all that mold.

I found one like this in the wild also. Literally in the wild out underneath a lean too style shed with corigated plastic roof. Was leaking water on it when she took me out back to look. Might as well get a hatchet it is only worth kindling now. So aweful to see a pin with water, mold and sun damage.

Probably just needs a fuse

CL: only 123 made! Recently fully shopped. Normal wear for a classic pin this age. $15,000 or consider trade for CQ MM.

#22 11 years ago

That'll buff right out ...

I kicked myself later, as the backglass was in really good shape and would've made for excellent wall art. If i could have gotten it for 30 bucks or so. I would have taken the backglass and accidently left the rest at the auction or it might have mysteriously fell out of my truck on the way home. Just kidding. Live and learn my friends.

Plastics and bumpers are good, but that's it. It's sad to see a pin go out like this.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to quote Terrable on this one and go with, "wowwwwwwwwwwwww."
