I just put a knocker kit in my Spider-man and it works fine, except I still get the electronic sound when I test it in Diagnostics.

The knocker volume is set to off and I rebooted the machine, but in knocker diagnostics I get both the coil knocking and the speaker screech.

Any suggestions as to how to eliminate the speaker screech?

Check the directions on settings. I don't think volume off is right.

These are the instructions I followed.

I don't believe the test modes work with the knocker. The only way to test it is in game.

I think. If it works in game your fine.

Are these still available anywhere?

#6 10 years ago

I thought I read that was always going to happen in diagnostics somewhere. Have you actually tested in a real game yet? I could be wrong, I haven't done the kit myself, but it sounds familiar to me that this is a known issue.

Yes, the electronic sound still sneaks through in test modes.

I recently put knockers in AC/DC and FG. Does that in both.

Make sure you have the knocker volume turned off and in real game play, only the coil knocker sounds.

I want!

OK, thanks.

I have it set to knock only on a high score or a match. So I'll have to work a bit to see if it works.

These kits sold for $50 I believe, very easy to build yourself. $43 in parts:

Pinballlife was selling them for about $85 around 9 months ago but has been sold out for a while. Hopefully they will make them a regular stock item soon.

Robert, if you don't have a free game level set in your game as an extra ball, then you can probably get the knocker to go off at whatever score you set free game to be. I have it that way in one of my three games so it knocks at the extra ball/free game score, and the other two games are set to extra balls so they don't knock when the extra ball is awarded.

I have a new kit that I bought for my FG . Sold the pin but still have the kit. Sold. Thanks.

These are designed to go in the cabinet; near the transformer...so they are not as loud as the ones that were in the head.

You can extend the wire and run it to the head. You can also mount the coil on a small block of wood and have it hitting the side cabinet and it will be louder. I think MrWizzo had a thread that showed doing that. I will link it in a minute after I find it.

I stand corrected. I thought they were $50.

Yep, that's how I mounted mine and it is crazy loud. Scares most of my friends when they hear it and they ask what the heck was that. I love it.

All you need to put in a knocker is the Stern Step-Up Driver board -
http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=1183

The Data East knocker -
http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=675

and the knocker plate -
http://www.pinballlife.com/index.php?p=product&id=683

The rest is wiring and molex connectors.

Use the Pinball Browser tool to replace the knocker sound with no sound and you can use the test without the duck sound going off.

Or replace the knocker sound with a C4 explosion sound...
