*(Tittle changed to Sopranos restoration to post the process here)*

Just got a Sopranos and will get it cleaned and shinny in the next weeks. Pf is perfect with absolutely no wear
The cabinet art is restored, but has an ugly restore on Tony's face. lol looks like a cat
So the question is, should i make me a decal set for this?
I have a scanner and with my art skills i can easily reproduce some perfect decals for the machine.
Also the art is a little yellow. It is supposed to be clear white, right?

If this was your machine, what would you do if you were me?

I'd say go for it.

Can't be much worse, I would just sandwich it in between a few others.

Well, decided to post the restore process here. Never saw a SP being restored on forums, so here it goes.
First, 3 plastics will be reproduced. The bottom slings and the top safe plastic. Going to the printer/cutting/crapping/etc today:badass plastics.pngbadass plastics.png

#6 10 years ago

Cleaning as started. Machine is not that dirty on the top, but needs new rubbers and lights.
The safe is horrible. Decals for the safe arrived today

Yes I would do new side art and maybe something original
Maybe a Bada Bing sign with a dancer Silhouette or Satriale's

#10 10 years ago

You might want to consider one of the alternate translights made for Sopranos. I picked up one with a dancer on it that looks pretty cool. I can't remember where I bought it now, but there were two options to choose from at the time.

If you remember where you got it please let me know.
I saw one once that was Tony's face looking to the camera with sun glasses. I think it was black and white with red logo.

Hmmmmmm.... not gonna do anything new here. I think the side art looks really strong and cool Scarface style.
The pf art looks crapola. I though on doing a complete redesign of the pf's art and plastics once.. I even made a sketch of it. Will try to find it and post it here. But just thinking on the hours i was gonna waste on that made me kill the idea fast

#14 10 years ago

I need a me plastic behind my safe also, I don't suppose I could pay you to make an extra one for me by chance?

I printed 2 of each. One with a remake of the plastic's crappy quality, you know, with that crappy printing where the colors are dots of cmyk prnting colors. And another with plain colors, vector like.
I am gonna choose the best for me and guess you can have the other one.

#16 10 years ago

Left the anti rust liquid way too long on the ramp flap, so the black paint got completely damaged. Had to take it all out in the end. Now it's just shinny metal like lol
Guess we can call it a mod...hhmm.... doesn't look that bad anyway

How goes this resto? Did you end up deciding whether you would re-produce the cabinet artwork? I've been looking at this machine over the past few days and the cabinet art doesn't seem too hard to reproduce. Doing a quick Google search, the main image is already out there, just need a high res version of it.

Cheers!
Adam.

The pf top and bellow is all restored and shinny. Playing perfectly now. I am just waiting for a camera stand that I ordered to make a vid.
Also ordered the side rails with button guard to paint them in red. Will pain the legs and lock bar too. (will not be paint, I can't remember the name of the technique..)

About the cabinet art, yes I have decided, I will reproduce it. It needs to be scanned first.
Yes the image exists on the internet, the problem is that it has a different graphic treatment on the cabinet. I seriously doubt I can reproduce the art with the image from the net, so I will have to scan the machine and restore the art in photocrap..
Will post everything here

#21 10 years ago

Looking forward to the video!

I did a quick play around in Photoshop today and the main image seems to be easy to find for the cabinet sides, but I couldn't (or didn't look hard enough) find images for the backbox and also the coin door. Will also make the machine stand out if you powdercoat the legs and rails like you said.

Here's what an Aussie owner/operator did with his Sopranos. He has a flair for making Stern machines look special.

I wish I could find a cheap Sopranos machine to restore after all this talk! haha

#22 10 years ago

That's exactly what I am gonna do with the rails, legs, shooter, etc
Sopranos looks amazing like that.

The image is easy to find, yes: http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the-sopranos-2_7524.jpg
The problem is that the printing process on the machine makes it look like a halftone graphic effect. And it's very hard to reproduce exactly. So it's easy to make a scan and a graphic restore.
Yeah and I never found the pics for the head sides either.

It's getting hard to find a sopranos, specially with a mint pf (like mine muhahahah), but you can still find one.

Anybody knows what is the size of the t-molding that this machine uses?
What is the best to use? And where to buy it?

#25 10 years ago

Help?

#28 10 years ago

I just ordered Stern t-moulding from Marco's and installed it on my Sega South Park. In bed now. Will post the product number in the morning.

Cheers!
Adam.

#29 10 years ago

Thnks for the help!
Guess is 3/4" inch, and in Europe is 18 mm.
Will decide if I am gonna put the original chrome or red. Since I am painting the side rails, legs etc in red, maybe a red molding will be nice?

#30 10 years ago

There is a Thread with Red Siderails......i would prefer black......

#31 10 years ago

I'm going all red.
Something like this:

Pimp my Sopranos!

T-Molding part number from Marco's: #TM34C.

3/4" wide chrome sold per foot.

Cheers!
Adam.
