  1. Ok, I think I pulled a Brokedad and shorted out my feature light matrix on my Meteor. While trying to get some of my intermittent lamps to work, I shorted the circuit. Poof.

Note: Always take off your wedding ring before working on your pin.

Now most of the feature lights don't work. For some reason, 9 lights work so the base circuit is good. Fuse is good too. I tested the SCRs on the lamp matrix board and they all test good so I figure the chips are bad.
How do I test the chips?
If I buy new chips do they need to be burned in first or will they work right out of the box?

    Thank you.

    Which lamp is KO ?
On the schematics , you can see there is a resistor between IC"s and pin Q of SCR.
I have the doubt about IC "out of order" by this short-cut but why not .

So take the voltage between the output of IC and ground , during a Lamp test made by the test button and compare between circuits ?
Check the bulb-support too , i had some mistakes on my eightball with the support of lamp !

ADD : Mesure tension on the resistor and not directly on the pin of IC.The risk is to make a shortcut between pins of IC -OK?

    Hope you will find .

Maybe we should call it a Blubber ? (BrokeDad + SealClubber+Alaska reference).

I can't offer much advice as I've never worked on a Stern machines electronics.
Let me know how it's going as I'm curious. It looks right now as I will be home the next couple of days as we have a winter storm warning.

Let me know what kind of chips/IC's you are talking about. If they are standard TTL logic, microprocessor, etc I probably have them. Only microcontrollers, PAL, GAL, and Eproms chips need programmed.

Without having something like a eprom burner that also has a test mode for IC's like mentioned above they are almost impossible to check. You can use a logic probe if you know exactly what signal you are looking for but it's not easy.

  4. Thanks guys. I am just going to buy the four CD4514 chips from Big Daddy Enterprises. If this doesn't work then I have no idea what is wrong. He also says the chips are ready to go out of the box. I am going to check the resistors also, just got home from work. I'm getting all sorts of Circuit Board repair experience.

did you check each lamp with a 9 volt bat. first ?

The 4514 is a CMOS 4:16 decoder with an active high latch. Something I can test but best you just try some as they are generic and super cheap.

I'm taking tomorrow off with the pending snowstorm. So I am moving the Torch out to the garage tomorrow and bringing in the Street Fighter II. The Torch is really pretty boring and I want the SF2 machine in where I can play it without freezing my cahonies off. I think the Torch will be a machine I sell fast this spring.

That's crazy with shorting stuff out with your wedding ring! Working in construction you hear all sorts of stuff like that. Here's a good one. A guy lost his footing on a ladder and slipped a couple of rungs and his wedding ring caught on the ladder and ripped his finger right off! Probably LOST more than 3 months pay cuz of that!
Big Daddy Enterprises? what else do they sell? Hot INDY race car chicks?

  8. I found the problem. I'm an idiot. That's the problem. I looked at the bulbs and they looked good but I never actually put any in a good socket. Autumn, your reply made me realize I never tested the bulbs. They were all burnt out. I guess a bulb can blow and the filament still be intact. Thank you. My father always said "Try fixing it the hard way first."

Good for you SC ! Still selling it now? I don't even know where my wedding ring is anymore.

I always love to trick people by telling them on things to make sure the fuse isn't shorted ... LOL

I'm sitting at home today with the snow coming down. It looks much warmer in France lb45.
