I recently bought a rottendog power supply for Last Action Hero (Data East). When I installed it the DMD didn't work right. It was almost completely lit. I tested the Negative voltage and I was getting -175. Way too high! I talked to Jim at Rottendog and he said it sounds like the negative voltage regulators are blown. I sent it back and he sent me a new board....I installed it but only plugged in Connector #1 and turned it on. The voltage was way to high again. I had Jim on the phone at the same time....He said the Regulators blew again...Two boards are toasted! The old board looks like crap all bubbled and melted but it still works. My old board handels the high negative voltage but the new one doesn't....Anyone else have this problem? Should I keep the new board from Rottendog and replace the negative voltage regulators to accept higher voltage? Why is my Machine producing such a high negative voltage? How do I fix this?

Or is it just Rottendogs boards?
The DMD Negative voltage I get with the old board I'm using is -115. and it works great.
Anyone know where I can get a Data East Board that will work?

Try www.ksarcade.net. They sell new and rebuilt circuit boards.

I had the same problem. It fried my DMD before I realized what was going on. Unfortunately, this situation is due to a bad design of the high voltage section of the power supply. The LM337 regulator is being used way out of spec and will fail.

I got my PS back after repair and the -110v is at -120. Better, but still on the high side. I don't trust it, so I bought a rough DE PS and rebuilt it instead. My Rottendog PS is for sale, I'm not going to burn up another DMD with one of them.

Do a few searches on RGP and you'll see that we aren't the only people with this problem.

It costs more money to build it right. That's all there is to it. Ed at GPE has a write up about situations like this. It is written in general terms and does not point fingers. But it applies in this situation.

    http://www.ksarcade.net.

The only board they have for last action hero is rottendogs.

    No luck there

If it were me, I'd look for a DE PS on eBay or ask around on here, KLOV, or RGP.

Do you do your own board repair? Here's what my DE PS looked like before and after. I did a best offer on eBay and got it shipped to me for $18. I put about $35 worth of parts in it and it works fine (I basically replaced everything but a few resistors and Zener diodes.) The HV voltages are better than the repaired Rottendog.
