Ordered a Stern blue DMD to go with my STLE which just arrived. I had ordered the blue dmd before the colordmd announcement, but having gone through the process I do not think a colordmd will fit in a STLE. The blue dots though are a match made in heaven with the LE.

Some modification had to be made to the dmd, here is the process:

The red screen overlay and blue ones are not the same size. So I cut the blue screen to size:

Then added screw holes by melting them in with a soldering iron:

Once this was done, everything assembled plug & play.

Here is my lineup, with a nice variety of blue/green/orange/red dots:

It is not a cheap mod, but for a AAA game like the STLE I decided to indulge to really put it over the top. It is a shame Stern didn't do this like with Hulk and just included the color for LE.

#3 10 years ago

Very nice!

So the stern blue dmd came with the blue cover and the new dmd panel window is now a different size? I ordered a blue stern dmd as well and get my stle soon and thought it would be a quick swap?

Looks fantastic, might have to do this for mine!!!!

I dig it.

yes, you will have to cut the overlay like I showed above. the rest of the swap is plug and play. really makes the game look beautiful and different.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the game so far. I just got it today. First impressions are amazing. It definitely feels like a 2013 pinball machine.

What a shame Stern didn't put the blue in the LE. Looks perfect.

Love how the blue display matches the enterprise on the side rail. Nice job frolic.

They really missed the boat on that one.

#23 10 years ago

what did you use to cut the lens?

#24 10 years ago

Should have been factory looks amazing !!!

#25 10 years ago

Anyone interested could also get the new white X-Pin DMD and pick whatever shade if blue gel they wanted.

#26 10 years ago

That is sweet, yea Stern should be ashamed for not including a blue DMD with the STLE but I am still holding out hope ColorDMD can fit their LCD screen in the new LE speaker panel. If not that would be a real pisser. Let's see some video please.

Thanks for this frolic! What did you use to cut the plexi glass? Box cutter? Exacto knife? Other?

How do you like it so far with the blue?

Sorry Cobra, I grabbed the last one (I think) when I was at Starburst this afternoon.

just used a regular x-acto to cut the blue film, it is nowhere near as thick as the factory red plexi-glass.

So far loving the blue a lot. Loving the game too. A lot of "game" there already.

Could you post the manufacturer of the DMD? I was told that pinball de made these for stern. I bought one for my Avengers but got to keep it when I sold it. I want to see if the Stern one is a different model or the same one. Both had the same price.

My ColorDMD is already installed in my STLE. Have a look here:

ColorDMD rocks! And maybe some day we'll get a full color DMD for the ST(LE)
