I thought I would share one of my newest babies. The pictures will speak for themselves in respect to condition but I would call it brand new.

It was sold to me a great fella who was just couldn't keep it any more. She's gone to a good home now. It had a few issues after sitting for 25 years but I've worked most of them out, just one more to go.

Anyone who knows these machines knows that even though it's an EM it's actually an EM hybrid as I would describe it. It has a SS board which provides all the sounds, only a knocker is present, no bells, chimes or anything. It even as a small board that flashes some lights on the playfield. Other than that it's all EM, all the relays and switches you would expect are there.

The game plays quite quickly due to the strong coils. It's also very very fun as there's much to play with. I just love this thing, but without further ado.

The explosion above the ship lights up when ever you hit a drop target. You also get an explosion type sound from the game.

Nicest combat i have ever seen. Congrats on a fine purchase. I played a few of these and its a very fun game with lots of pep! I enjoyed the sound, it was unique. That game is gorgeous.

#18 10 years ago

Wow is all I can say.

That game is clean enough to eat off of.

You sure don't see one of those everyday!

Thanks guys, I think this is gonna be one of the best finds of my pinball lifetime. It's actually a dream come true for me, I never thought I would ever get a machine so new.

The one things that really scares me about this game design is the plastics that go right to the side. When you lift the playfield they literally drag against the side of the cab and have to be ridiculously careful not to rip them off, same goes for when your putting the PF down. I'm in the middle of trying to figure out why the ball won't always kick out of the outhole. The machine just goes bonkers until I reach in and flick it out to the plunger. So the up and down with the PF is freaking me out.

I just love the sounds, the beauty of the soundboard is that there's a volume control! That is so awesome for later night play.

Loosen all the screws and nuts on the side plastics and hold them towards the center while re-tightening.

If this does not give enough clearance, SLIGHTLY elongate the mounting holes in the plastic with a rat-tail file, allowing the needed space.

With power off, manually determine if the kick out prong is hitting the exact center of the ball.

and that it is not hanging up on anything through it's travel.

Too bad about it having digital audio, but a very nice looking game though, you should be proud to have that one!

Why?

That's the charm of those late 70s games.

#30 10 years ago

That thing is immaculate!

I think I can see my reflection on the playfield!

I did check the switch and it's contacting nicely. I know it's contacting because it's making the standup target reset and making everything else go bonkers until I flick it out. I've checked the Ball Index relay, the score motor switches which release the ball, the outhole relay, nothing is working yet.

I must say though that it almost always kicks out the ball on ball 2, but never ball 1 or 5. Sometimes it'll do ball 3 and 4. Makes me think it's some sort of ball count relay issue or something.

I looove the PF artwork on this pin.....excellent find Jason!! I didn't even know EM/SS hybrids existed....freakin cool.
And those pop bumper caps are "DA BOMB"

I want one!

I will admit I wish it had a bunch of bells AND a full 3 bank chime unit instead but digital sounds do compliment this particular game and I actually like them quite a bit. It would need much more than just one bell or one chime unit to be as cool as it is now.

Fantastic find jasonsmith

Great find!

Congrats and have some fun with your new keeper!

My 1975 CC Top Ten has a SS Relay Board for the Playfield Spinner, so mid 70's you could find machines that actually were incorporated with both EM ans SS parts.

I like Vids' suggestion on the rubbing plastics. I was gonna say maybe take them off and file the edges that are rubbing just enough to provide clearance-using a fine file. I sometimes smooth out rough edges to plastics when I restore a game, so am used to doing that sort of thing, though his idea leaves the plastics more original. Two questions come to mind. What's on the back of the spinner? I'm guessing another explosion, right? and second, Does anyone know roughly what the production numbers were for that game? Probably hard to track down, from Italy.....
Amazing condition, and awesome theme/artwork. Only price data from Ebay shows it to be very inexpensive-but this one should be worth a lot more!

#37 10 years ago

Where is the Zaccaria box it came out of? I thought we would see a full unboxing of this pin.

That is a great looking Combat. I picked one up as a project about two months ago and I am hoping to finally get started on it in the next week. My pop bumper caps are really yellowed and one is missing and another broke. I have not found anyone who has any that were not showing their age. I did buy some new blank white Gottlieb caps that should work but I am going to scan in the pop bumper caps I have and vectorize the artwork and have them printed onto clear vinyl by a friend who owns a vinyl printer. I also will scan in the plastics just incase one ever breaks I can make another since finding another one would be a challenge.

I played a Combat at the Houston Arcade Expo and after about 40 games I was hooked. I found out through a friend that his friend had a Combat project that he was open to selling that he had not had time to start on. After a brief negotiation I picked up probably the nicest condition EM I have ever owned for a very fair price. It is also my first non-US made pinball and probably not my last...

This is a super fun and intense game. Between the very satisfying spinner shot that builds the kickout hole bonus to the extra ball after dropping all the targets, to the mines on top that build your ball end bonus. This is an amazing all rounder. Wait till you hit 400,000 and the alarm goes off, the whole house will know how well you did.

Just curious, how has your playfield held up with the factory clear coat?

#46 10 years ago

Under 1500 plays on the game meter says to me...HUO!
Best of luck with that brand new game.

#47 10 years ago

Congrats on the beautiful game.

#48 10 years ago

Fantastic game. Never saw an EM Zac as pristine as this one. Thanks for sharing !

#49 10 years ago
