I bought some nice sideboard decals for my WMS IJ. They are
basically big stickers to be attached inside the cabinet.

The instructions that came with the decals suggest that I should
remove the playfield altogether prior to installing the sideboard
decals and the felt strips.

However, I'd rather not do the work if it is possible to insert the sideboard
decals without removing the playfield.

Has anyone experience on how to install the decals without playfield
removal - any best practises to share?

Thanks!

I went ahead and installed my LOTR sideboard decals by myself without lifting the playfield.
In the end they aren't spot on, but good enough.

The difficult bit is to get around the raised playfield, when one cannot press the decals into
the side of the cabinet.

The good thing was that the sticker could be removed even though one had sticked it
to its place and this way a somewhat good alignment was reachable.

But to be honest, this is a two-man job or the playfield has to be removed.

My decals go now about 5 mm:s below the glass level in the end and they are
even in the start, but I guess this was quite a good result when doing the job by oneself
and with the playfield raised. I did not apply the wet method as the decal could be
removed and be resticked.

Below are the pictures on the basis of which it is easiest to judge the alignment, as it
is this end where the alignment goes a bit out.

with the playfield pushed up , take off the paperback and gently slide it back between the playfield with your helper holding the end of the decal not to press it down , since the wood is somewhat textured the decal wont stick immediately . once its positioned in place , press it down with a wash cloth and that's about it ,,,if you need to put some masking tape on the top edges to hold it in place , it could help hold the decal in place prior to pushing it down
