I wanted to post pictures of my first complete no expense spared restoration on my Indy Jones machine. I am starting by stripping the entire playfield and sending off to HSA for stage 2 and cc, after that the cabinet is getting completely stripped sanded, painted and new very expensive decals added. All the metal parts are going to Mike Chesnut for brass plating, look at HEP IJ Gold over the top thats the look I am going for. I am going to post pictures of my restoration because I am waiting on Mike Chesnut for plating, and HSA for the playfield that wont be back until december. I picked up a TZ on friday that I brought home and thought I will just clean the playfield and shop it which ended up in 1,000 pieces doing the same restoration. So while i wait on the poly to dry on my TZ cabinet I thought I would post some pics, again please be nice as this is my first complete restoration My bulldog says goodbye to my playfield after being stripped he is sa to see it go I told him it would be back

next is on to the cabinet I know this one isnt that faded but this one is going to be perfect (atleast thats wat I am going for. The inside of this cabinet is terrible, I wanted a new cabinet from DH but I thought why not try this one yourself it can't be that hard.......80 hours later I should have bought a new one but it will do pics before and after

Nice work!
This project is in my future as well. Got all the parts, just trying to find the time.

You sure love your wide bodies

#9 11 years ago

Looking great!

#10 11 years ago

Now just waiting on brass plated parts from Mike, side rails, lockdown bar, coin door, gun, playfield glass channel, high polished legs, backglass channel, playfield ramps, bolts etc. I will post pics of the completed cabinet and then some more waiting for the playfield hopefully I will get everything back together or I will have an $8,000 piece of furniture !

#12 11 years ago

My three games are IJ, TZ, Roadshow, the cabinet is to far gone for roadshow so just ordered a new one from DH. I will post pics of my roadshow when done I actually polished every ball guide and playfield bracket to a mirror finish on roadshow looks great. Since I only have room for three games in my gameroom-bar these are the three I wanted and they need to look better than new, it just turned out to be more expensive that I thought

#13 11 years ago

Pics of my new TZ I just picked up 3 days ago .... I think I might have some mental problems it was a nice game with minor fading. Oh well it will look great as well doing a chrome theme will new playfield this one isn't going to be cheap either

tz1.JPGtz1.JPG TZ2.JPGTZ2.JPG

#14 11 years ago

Pics of roadshow polished ball guides waiting on new cabinet cant tear this one apart yet its the only functional game I have right now. I know the rules suck, the art sucks, the music sucks, but I don't care I love this game always keeps me coming back to play and get super payday its great

I like RS. Good all around game, lots of fun. When people have collections of all the same game as everyone else, it bores me. I like seeing a RS or a Flintstones or a Congo in someone's collection, etc.

Is that a sample TZ? If so, nice score. The backbox looks like sample artwork.

#16 11 years ago

Your IJ is looking fantastic! Can't wait to see it all finished.

#17 11 years ago

Nice work on the IJ.

I am also an owner and big fan of the IJ-TZ-RS widebody trio. Such great fun.

#18 11 years ago

Nice job on the cabinet, really looks great.

#19 11 years ago

TZ is not a sample it has the stars at the top of the head thinking of going proto with it since playfield is changing mirco has the repro with 3rd mag, no flip here, and green lock not sure yet though

#20 11 years ago

Nice work!!! Now can you come finish my IJ for me

Once you do one restore you become super picky and it is hard to just complete a shop job as you quickly decide to go all out. Keep the pics coming

Isn't that the truth... when I bought my BK I figured I'd just have a "player" as there was no chance I'd ever find a repro playfield to put in it. After getting it working and playing for just a few weeks, though, the sunken inserts pissed me off enough that I'm determined to strip it right down and do a full touch-up and automotive clear on it to get it back into shape.

#22 11 years ago

Nice work and a shout out for another local pinhead!

#23 11 years ago

There seems to be alot more collectors in Ohio that I thought maybe that's why games are almost impossible to find

#24 11 years ago

A lot of flippers in Ohio and some Craigslist sharks in the area.

I snagged my HS2 out from under one of them. Its nice when you can add a title you want at a good price and beat out on of the flippers that had zero interest in the title but just wanted to resell it.

#25 11 years ago

Just picked up this Twilight zone in good condition needed shopped and the GI was hacked a little for $3300 from an operator, he also has a few nice STTNG machines there as well, plenty of operators here in NE ohio that have pins in a warehouse

#26 11 years ago

I know the usual ones like Ohio Vending, Lorain Music and Cadillac near Cleveland. I got a WCS94 a while back from OV and it was a nice game. They have said they are getting out of pinball now for years but still have games. It seems all of the op's play games (pun intended) when trying to buy one from them. On one hand they say they want to sell it but then usually wants retail or restored pricing. This from machines that likely have already paid for itself. Go figure.

Got my parts in from Mike chesnut yesterdy for TZ and Indy here are so update photos. Also all ramps, apron, diverter, and misc and the plafyield was plated as well just waiting on HSA for the playfield. This is the first time I have had parts done by Mike and its well worth it the finish is awesome maybe a little to nice I won't want to get it dirty. The gun will be detailed in black with powder a little later but it looks great in brass just needs the handles black to set it off.

Looking good. Funny to see that TZ playfield resting in there. Great Job on the cabinet. I too have started my high end IJ restoration. I'm calling mine the Indiana Jones "Orange Edition". Playfield is stripped and sent off for clear coat, just waiting for powder coating swatches back to pick the right shade of orange and then here's what's getting powder coated:
Legs, side rails, hinges, lockbar, receiver, playfield supports, and inside leg plates. Accents will be in black, new coin door, black leg bolts/cabinet bolts and levelers.

Keep up the good work on yours!

Kevin

Thanks! Are you doing the ground braid with an air stapler?
I bought this one on Amazon for my Chrome TZ restoration and it worked great. Got the same factory staples from pinrestore too.

In the 1st pic it looks like the playfield glass back trim is plated. Is that the plastic piece plated or is that a metal piece?

#36 11 years ago

Actually that is a plated metal piece made by Mike Chesnut, also the translite trim is metal made by Mike. I think it is a neccessity to have if you are going with chrome or brass full trim.

#37 11 years ago

It looks nice.I had him brass my IJ and it looks much better than the stock trim.

Nice eye on the Lenc Smith and Accepted decals! I made them myself on neon colored labels and a very bold font to try and match the originals. I'll have to look on my computer at work for the template tomorrow, I will PM the document to you. A must for that final touch. I also had the serial number stickers redone, if anyone is interested PM me and I will pass along the info no who does that.

#39 11 years ago

That looks amazing, I will hold back the drool. You going to do others pins too or just your own? Now I want a IJ, thanks!

#40 11 years ago

So what did Mike charge you for all of it? I have an IJ and wouldn't mind it. thanks.

let me know if you have that info, also how did you do the serial numbers I want to remake the decals for the back and inside of cabinet some how not sure how to go about this. Also noticed on you Twilight Zone there was no coil wrappers on the flippers, Buy the coil wrapper kit from planetary pinball if you are doing a full playfield dissasemble harnesses, and machinery it really gives it that finished touch. I will post pictures of my TZ I am doing today

I love to do these restorations as a hobby but not so sure what to do when these get done only have room for 3, my 11 year old wants a funhouse to restore for his room so I might help him do one.

That machine is gorgeous!

Also, that's a ridiculously cute dog.

#48 11 years ago

Definitely want to see pics if you decide to two-tone the gun, I agree that the grips being offset from the brass would really help it pop.

What was your thinking? Just mask everything off and powdercoat?

Oh man, I didn't realize your were doing all the ramps and brackets too. This thing is gonna be sick! Can't way to see it done.

Also, meant to ask you about this. How did the application of the decals go with Rapid Tac?
I did my TZ dry with no issues, but I'm a little worried about doing IJ dry because it's so critical to lineup the artwork at the corners.
