I think the LOTR price has gone down slightly, because they have been producing the LE version up until this year. The LOTR I got this year was made in January 2011 with factory installed shaker. All I had to do was take it out of the box and it had the latest programming. I also got all the original action figures from amazon and e-bay and some additional figures such as Gimli, Baromir, Legolas, Sauron, etc.
Since the NIB LOTR LE is still readily available, the used ones have been depressed in price slightly, but not by much. Once all the NIB LOTR and SM are gone they will probably be priced fairly similarly based on like used condition.
