Hi newtoit, glad to here your playfield arrived safely, and you are very happy with it.

This Black Knight playfield you bought from me was not second run, it was a special run called the (CPR SILVER KNIGHT LIMITED EDITION) only 35 were ever made and you now have #11 of the 35. That is why there was a limited edition plate made for it, and came with it.

Here is a link to CPR SILVER KNIGHT

I also got the CPR SILVER KNIGHT LIMITED EDITION from another pinsider a few months back, and it looks great.

What # did you get?

Ok, here are the pictures I took of my CPR Black Knight playfield. I looked pretty closely and not a single insert is pulled away (with that characteristic white line shown in the pictures in the prior posts).

My playfield is cosmetically perfect as far as I can tell, other than the fact that around 1/3 to 1/2 the inserts (I didn't count precisely) have a 'ridge' in the clearcoat which is noticeable as you run your finger across, but I would estimate to be maybe 1mm in height.

I should point out any anomalies that you see are dust as I didn't take the time to completely dust off the playfield (it's been sitting in a closed box horizontal since about 45 days after receipt - I took it out and laid them on my flat workbench and allowed them to 'air-dry' further before re-storing them in the box).

Actually upon further inspection, for the first time, I noticed that my far right outlane is one-half white and one-half wood. Hmm.... The other side is not like that nor are the others that I see. At least the inserts are intact.

Where are they numbered, as it is now installed. I remember it had the limited logo on the upper playfield.

These are pictures before I got it.

KeithinMI:
Forgive me if I can't remember every transaction, so correct me if I am wrong: I can see your pair should be one of the reduced-priced ones, the later-selling "seconds" that had ugly woodgrain rolled over in tan-colored enamel (such as in this case, the entire shooter lane). That is the "white" you are seeing peeking into the right outlane. It's maple-colored enamel.

FYI to all, as there are a couple dozen of these out there: This was a practice done prior to silkscreening, to rescue cosmetically blemished whitewoods that otherwise would have been thrown out. Yield is everything, and some boards shouldn't be wasted because of something cosmetic that not all pinballers would find off-putting. Especially for a discount. Partially tan-rolled wood is visually much more acceptable over deep brown sand-machine burnt wood.

You may see CPR boards like that from time to time... a few coming from every few runs, including some of the upcoming Strikes & Spares playfield release in a couple weeks. Great way to save about a hundred bucks or more. It's a way we rescue what otherwise could have been waste (both actually and financially) and another few games get "saved" that otherwise wouldn't.

On another note, I will be the first one to apologize to the OP for what was supposed to be a ForSale thread.

I looked at it again. That is (or was) just some dust on the PF. That plus the angle of the camera. No lifted insert.

I wasn't complaining about it Kevin. Apparently, the camera really accentuates the color difference, because I just went back and looked at it and unless you look *very* closely, you can't see the color difference under normal lighting at all. Probably even less when it's installed in the machine.

Looks like a crack to me.

"Just got a cpr bk playfield from a fellow pinside member. Its a second run #11 of 35. Its gorgeous and smooth as glass. "

Consider yourself lucky. I got one of the firsts. I also got one of the first xenon. The xenon arrived with the clearcoat slightly rippled all over like the wood grain was rising up. You could feel it across the surface. The BK I was in the first order, but when they shipped out didn't get one.. emailing back and forth they were running more since they were oversold? When I got mine it obviously had not cured enough. The box reeked when I opened it. Now a few years later it has severe rippling.. it seems to get worse as time passes. When I complained after getting 2 like this, I was simply told "we promised a clearcoated playfield, not one of glass quality". So be prepared to do a lot more work on your PF and factor that cost in if my experiences are anything of the norm. I just turned my BK on, and I would say 40% of the inserts have very small cracks or crack clouds in them. One of the other issues was sanding marks across the inserts. I believe between coats the PF is sanded.. however on some of my inserts there were some pretty good scrapes across them still very visible. Again, supplied pics and got no resolution, just excuses. So keep an eye out wherever you buy one of these.
