For those interested, I'm slowly doing my restoration of DE StarWars. I picked up in end of November, and started the restro in Jan. My wife thinks I'm mad since the machine was working, but I just wasn't happy. Going to post a few pics from time to time, figuring it might help someone later.

You think the plunger and coil stop are shot? Old vs New...

OR the bent bar on the drop target. I've now fixed it.. Easiest method to bend back, used my workbench vise....

On DE SW the ramp is known to break its welds (very common problem). This one appeared to have been fixed once before. So I had a guy weld some extra support (it does not interfere will ball play). Most likely need to sand a bit more to get out the scratches...

Metal ball chutes all had surface rust all over, they looked like crap. Brasco was about worthless to clean any other metal, but for some reason it worked wonders on these......

And now for a question. How does this thing come apart? I've ripped it down all the way, removing the bolts seen here. But the two pieces of plastic prevent it from passing through the frame. Anyone ripped one of these apart? And how do you replace the fire button?

Thanks for posting your progress BrianZ, I enjoyed checking them out. I pretty much have started doing the same thing to my latest pin, a Zaccaria Devil Riders.. It wasn't working when I picked it up, but it was a simple fix on the power supply board.. So I was just going to fix that and do a quick shop job on it, then call it good..
Well there were two inserts on the PF that were sunken down a little and it just bugged the crap out of me.. The whole time I was taken parts off to replace the rubbers I kept staring at them... One thing led to another and well.... I just finished Clear Coating the whole PF tonight.. Oops... I didn't mean to get this deep into it...ha... It's just so Fun once I get started..

Good Luck with your resto ! , Bill in Indiana

I can recommend getting DESW color-matched paint from here:

    http://www.pinballuniverse.com/PinballPaints.htm

It was spot-on when I refurbished my DESW.

    Thanks.

BTW..I do have some updates. When I get home tonight i will post some pics. I focused on the redo of the playfiled, it now looks and plays great.

    ooh in for updates....

Alright here we go. So Updates. Everything mechanical works great. Playfield is at 99% completely done. The Cabinet, well thats still toast. Will get to that when i can find a way to reproduce the artwork.

    So work on the playfield.

    1) Rebuilt all pop-bumpers
    2) Rebuilt slingshots with new switches and sleeves
    3) Flipper rebuild kit (with new bats)
    4) New plastics for what i could get
    5) Made plastic protectors (1st time, not too bad)
    6) Factory wood rails replaced with Solid Oak painted black (old ones were pine with black plastic tape, tape was separating, and the boards were finger-jointed and splitting)
    7) Illumination - CT LEDS.. No Kit, selected my own. Comes out better- Trust me
    New Balls- a given
    9) New Coin Door
    10) All metal parts tumbled
    11) Lock down bar refinished
    12) Playfield cleaned, and touched up
    13) Main ramp welded and polished (it was coming apart)
    14) repainted the legs
    15) Replaced every target. BTW..This is not cheap...There went $45+ just on targets (not including death Star)

I'm sure I'm forgetting something, so here is some pics

R2D2... Chrome was peeling. Repainted with Krylon Chrome. In my opinion it actually looks better, and more like R2D2 should
