Cincypinball is pleased to announce a tournament dedicated to raising money for the Oursler family's medical expenses. IFPA is temporarily waiving the 30-day announcement requirement for these fundraising tournaments, so this event is scheduled for Saturday Feb 15th (little under 2 weeks from today). This tournament is open to the public, and as it is scheduled for a Saturday, will be worth a full complement of 25 WPPR points! Pre-registration by midnight Feb 12th is required. Tournament will be at a residence in Cincinnati, OH but there will be plenty of room to play. Competition games will be chosen from a selection of over 30 quality machines.

Register by sending email to Larry at [email protected] or Phoebe at [email protected]. Registrants will be sent the street address. Tournament is a standard setup, nothing fancy on such short notice. Payments taken onsite - do not mail or paypal any money beforehand.

    - Registration is open to the public, but you must pre-register by midnight Wed 12th so we have accurate player count. Address will be sent to registered players who need it. No pre-payments accepted.

    - Qualifying will be "Herb style" (do we have a better name for this yet?) The initial entry fee of $20 gets you registered and buys one entry (play) on each machine in the qualifying bank of 5 games.

    - Additional entries will be for sale at 4 plays for $10. These four games may be used on any machine(s) in the bank.

    - Qualifying runs 9am til 6pm on bank of 5 games. Game(s) may be added to the bank (prior to start) if we get more than 30 registrants to keep lines from becoming excessive.

    - Catastrophic malfunction date line is 2pm - game replaced before/scores frozen after this point.

    - All qualifying rules and procedures to be based on PAPA rules (malfunctions, interference, stuck balls, etc)

    - PAPA position/rank scoring (1st 100, 2nd 90, 3rd 85,84,83,82..)

    - Qualifying runs til 6pm. No new games may be started after 5:50pm. No refunds for partially used entry blocks (individual plays).

    - Top 8 qualifiers at 6pm play single-elimination finals, best 2 of 3. High seed has choice of game OR order throughout finals. Opponent gets remaining choice.

    - Ties - one game playoff, coinflip for choice of game/order.

    - If more than 24 register, we will take the top 12, add one round w/top 4 bye.

    PRIZE POOL:
    - Twenty-five (25) brand new, never used before WPPR points!
    - COINTAKER is sponsoring the tournament with a significant prize package of merchandise - details soon!
    - Phoebe (Butterflygirl) is donating TWO signed translites: Met Pro T-light signed by Borg, and a Monopoly T-light signed by Lawlor
    - Matt Gauslin is donating various goodies to the prize pool
    - We may have door-prizes or raffle if prizes keep coming in.
    - NO CASH PRIZES, all cash proceeds donated to Barry and his wife.

We already have (apprx guess) 8 people committed so should be a good crowd.

    Good luck everyone!

I've been using "best-game qualifying" instead of "Herb style".

Thanks for making this happen, Larry!

I'm sorry to temporarily hi-jack this thread, but could someone here send me the email for the Cincy pinball club? My old school's email deactivated itself, and I have not been able to get back into the club. I would really like to get back into the swing of things with the club. Thank you!

PM me your email and I'll add it to the list

    Update:

    - We have at least 18 signed up so far, but there's still plenty of room for more! Seriously, we could fit 40 if we had to... come compete!

    - The 5 qualifying games have been chosen: Tron Pro, Dirty Harry, Mystic (Bally), The Shadow and StarShip Troopers. AFM and Jackbot are waiting in the wings as additions.

    - Additional Pingolf side tournament will also be held. 9 hole course still to be finalized, but here are some examples so far:
    - WH2O - advance to raft 10
    - Big Bang Bar - start Looped in Space
    - Pinball Magic - Silence the Critics (after sixth trick)
    - 25M on Star Trek LE
    - HS2 Getaway - RUN THE RED LIGHT

Entries will be $10 for 9 hole card. 3 ball games: eagle, birdie, par, bogey. Best card is your entry, ties broken in head-to-head play after 6pm. Pingolf should have full IFPA side-tourney points available - this means 35+ points available for the day, plus any player bonuses. Come beat Trent

We've received prizes from Stern, Cointaker, Tilt Amusements and local collectors. Plenty to go around! Send an email to [email protected] or [email protected] if interested in playing THIS Saturday in Cincinnati OH

I dunno, it would be nice if the pool was heated.

Phoebe... typically you are not supposed to show everything when you "tease", so I can only guess you are also really teasing that you are giving away the Spider-Man and a NIB Stern? (obviously joking)

    #15 10 years ago

I think that they're just giving away the translights.

LOL!!! Funny Brian!!! IF that were the case we would have to post disclaimers that we are not responsible for blindness (either could be considered a bit "flashy")!!!

...Back to reality...Tourney is still on for tomorrow, snow go away!!! See everyone tomorrow!!!

The Cincypinball "You pays your money.." tournament has completed! Congratulations to Trent Augenstein for winning the open division. Brian Shepherd came in 2nd and Larry Scott was 3rd. Brian Shepherd won the (rather difficult) Pingolf tournament. Most importantly, $1,220 was raised for the Ourslers! Thanks to everyone involved, especially Stern Pinball for the main-prize signed translites, Cointaker for flipper and LED kits, and Matt Gauslin for LED prizes.

Congrats on a well run tourney and fundraiser for a great cause. Larry Scott 3rd? Never heard of him

    #21 10 years ago

Larry, it was a pleasure meeting you yesterday! And your collection?? What can I say... Those are the most well maintained, not an issue to be found, immaculate games in one place I have ever played. Thank you again for having us... We had a blast!!

Thanks for the comments Steve. I didn't realize you were vdrums here on pinside, otherwise I would have fired up Parsec in the game room upstairs LOL. Sorry for the overly-difficult pingolf holes, will definitely make them a bit easier next time!

    #23 10 years ago

Just went back and looked at the LAX thread... So that's your Parsec cart huh? That's cool! I seriously hadn't played that game or even seen a TI-99-4A in 30 something years. That's awesome that you have one!... And it doesn't surprise me that you have a game room upstairs too!! LOL
