I found a thread with this title but it is 2 years old. Any ideas in the 2014 market? I have a couple of friends who are thinking of getting a first pin and want to give them some good advice.

Baywatch?
Last Action Hero?

********** Edit 17 Feb 2014 - Results so far! **********

Finished updating the games linked at the top of the thread.

#2 10 years ago

Breakshot

#3 10 years ago

A really nice TAXI..

#4 10 years ago

Cyclone

#5 10 years ago

Great ideas so far, was also thinking:

High Speed
F-14 Tomcat
Space Shuttle

#6 10 years ago

Party Zone

#7 10 years ago

NBA Fastbreak

#8 10 years ago

by far, World Cup Soccer 94'. I don't even like soccer, but it's too much fun for the money.

#9 10 years ago

Breakshot, F14, NBA Fastbreak. I haven't seen a WCS in that range in a while, but they can be found.

#10 10 years ago

All the games I've sold.... Batman Forever, World Cup Soccer, Getaway. All great games that can be had for around that price. What can I say, the glitz and themes of POTC, Avengers, and ST made me part ways with them but they are great bang for the buck games. In retrospect, I'd go with World Cup Soccer and Getaway as my top choice.

#12 10 years ago

bulletproofed and restored Black Hole IMO!

#13 10 years ago

Taxi would be a good choice too. what does Mousin' Around go for? anywhere near $1500?

#14 10 years ago

Judge Dredd. And you have $100 leftover to purchase a Deadworld mod and some new balls.

#15 10 years ago

You should be able to get most of the System 11's in nice condition for $1,500.

Seen a couple Mousin' Arounds lately for $1k - $1100.

#17 10 years ago

Demolition Man

#18 10 years ago

Demoman or T2 best playing pins for money and great for beginners.

#19 10 years ago

A lot of System 11s for that price or great early 80s Bally/Stern games for even less.

Judge Dredd is a $1400 game folks!!!!

#21 10 years ago

Put another vote down for Demolition Man. It might be hard to find one at or below $1500, but it should be fairly close. Taxi or Earthshaker also fit the bill nicely.

#22 10 years ago

+1 on T2, nice looking, fast/fun, and they're easy to work on.

#23 10 years ago

Any decent "b" game

#24 10 years ago

Monday Night Football

#25 10 years ago

Eight Ball Deluxe
Breakshot

#26 10 years ago

NBA Fastbreak and Demo Man are both very good first pins. Simple ruleset in both, but I would still suggest NBAFB. Everyone gets the idea really fast and shooting hoops is rewarding like hell!

#27 10 years ago

Demo Man is an IFPA tournament game. After watching "It never Drains" this past week, my curiosity in that pin was piqued. Might be a good one.

I'd love a really NICE taxi for $1500. Actually I'd love a really NICE taxi for more. Just can't find them without a trashed pf.

#29 10 years ago

Last Action Hero. So much to do on a cheap pin and so much fun.

#30 10 years ago

Super Mario Bros. ....... I love that game!

#31 10 years ago

Earthshaker!

#33 10 years ago

+1 for Breakshot
Taxi
High Speed

#34 10 years ago

Of does WC94 ! Its a very underrated game!

#35 10 years ago

I am somewhat biased, but I would say a nice Pin*Bot (or a decent one with some money left over for repairs, etc.).

#36 10 years ago

This one is easy:

WHIRLWIND

F-14 is a close second....Taxi is up there too

I can't remember the last time I saw a Whirlwind for $1500 or less.

#38 10 years ago

Monday Night Football? Yuck!

Jurassic Park, now there's a bang for you buck pin!

I can't remember the last time I've seen nearly any the pins mentionned for $1500 and <.

#40 10 years ago

Maverick. You can pick one up way less than 1500.

#41 10 years ago

Demoman - Jurassic park - LAH
All can be found in that area in average condition - DM is spiking but there were a lot on route and you can find them needing love for that much.

#42 10 years ago

Another vote here for SMB!

Baywatch?
Last Action Hero?

From my experience, it depends if theme/toys/music is important with newbies.

If it has to be a dot matrix game:
Breakshot (great toy)
Jackbot
WCS (great toy)
MSF
Baywatch
T2 (great sound)
Mario Andretti
Lethal Weapon 3
LAH (great toy)
Waterworld
Royal Rumble

Probably could buy for around 1500:
Getaway (great sound) (great toy)
Doctor Who (great toy/gimmick)
Who Dunn-it
Nascar
Harley Davidson

If it can be older (most for less than 1500):
Whirlwind (great toys)
Taxi
Sorcerer
SOF (great sound)
Joker Poker
Checkpoint
High Speed or Secret Service (great sound)
Eight Ball Deluxe
Eight Ball
Dr. Dude (great toy)
Time Machine (great sound)
BOP (great toy)
Paragon

A few that I don't see FS very often for 1500 are:
TS, BSD, JM, JP, JD, TFTC
The market for this price hasn't changed that much in a year though.

Maverick, my first DMD under $1500. Not many DMDs get under this price, but a few.

Last Action Hero?

Yes - you nailed it. Those two are the most fun and have the most depth of any pins I have played in that price range. You can't go wrong with either of those. I assume the crappy themes are what keep the prices low on them.

#48 10 years ago

+1, if you can even find one FS

#49 10 years ago

The list here is quite extensive and I'm sure every one has been at $1500 or less but most of these are not normally sold for $1500 or less.

MM, that is funny and I think his point is the exact one I'm making.

WCS, WW, HS2 are all above $1500 normally even in routed players condition. Along with most others on the list.

I've seen two in the last year... most recently, one right in VA and it looked great
