just like to share my new restoration.

cabinet was a mess, playfield was shot, a lot of rust but did save the backbox.

here's what i've done:
made a new cabinet
new cpr playfield
new plastic set
bumper caps
apron re-done
and a lot more...
and a lot of buffing.

also cleared the backbox and cabinet. (something i wanted to try)

here's a few pics before and after.

New cab looks great!

How are going going to get the artwork on? Are you getting decals made or painting the cab yourself?

#15 12 years ago

that thing is sexy!

#16 12 years ago

Perfect ! Wonderful
This machine is my wishlist and i remember it in the gameroom where i played in 78 ..

#17 12 years ago

I saw another Playboy someone had restored and they painted the plumb bob/roll ball tilt wood square the same pink color as the pink in the cabinet stencils. It complimented the rest of the machine.

#20 12 years ago

Um, WOW!

What did you use on the lockbar to have it clean up so nice?

#21 12 years ago

Great work on the cabinet. Looks new.

looks awesome!

#29 12 years ago

Wow - that playfield saw a LOT of games! I'd only sell it if you need the $$. Personally, there's something about an old worn playfiled that I find appealing ....on the wall - certainly prefer a new CPR to play on.

#30 12 years ago

Some fantastic work you do beatmaster
I think most ppl would of turned their backs on a project pin like this
But you saved this Playboy from the grave

#31 12 years ago

Beat Master! You would not happen to have those stencils still, I was wondering if i could do a long distance borrow, rent, or possible buy them from you!

I just got the last cpr playfield! The last 3 projects for my playboy restore deal with the cab, putting the playfield in and fixing the sound.

Thanks!

#32 12 years ago

Id like to buy that playfield for a coffee table project.

no i dont have it anymore, i did my best to save it but with the paint it was impossible...

as for the old playfield i will probably try to install an overlay i have, maybe sell it cheap after that... will see.

#34 12 years ago

You sir have great skills.

I realize this is an old thread, but I may buy a Playboy this week and was just looking for some PB pin-porn. Let me say, this is easily the nicest looking Playboy machine on the Earth! Over the top, superb work my friend! Wow!

#36 11 years ago

Wow...
Now I understand everything... But it no needs a cover, it needs a SAFE.
Superb work, 101%!

#37 11 years ago

Great work!!! To save a game like that, you should be commended. Only thing is with a new cabinet, new pf, new plastics, it's really a "new" game isn't it and not the original one anymore?

Still cool.

#38 11 years ago

Amazing clean work!!!
Awsome!Congrats!
How many hours approximately?

#39 11 years ago

WOW! I thought my 6M$M cab was in bad shape. Nice wreck recovery!

#40 11 years ago

Way better than new!

#41 11 years ago

I hope he got rid of the battery on the MPU board!

#42 11 years ago

You beat me to saying it, I can't believe that old battery is on the MPU. A capacitor works so well on these pins, it seems a crazy to even bother with batteries.

The best $4 and 15 minutes of work I ever spent on my Playboy.

#43 11 years ago

Big fan of using the 1f cap!

#44 11 years ago

Absolutely gorgeous! Can I ask what brand of paint and clear you used on the cabinet? I haven't tryed clear on a cabinet yet. I like how it looks.

#45 11 years ago

Excellent work. On my wishlist as well. The game that started me on a long pinball journey that continues today.

wow i didn't saw the reply.. sorry, where was i?

yes it's on my things to do on this machine : Capacitor, Radial Electroltyic, 1.F, 5.5V.

thank to the others for the kind words.
machine is not 100% original anymore but damn nice and better then the original.
how many hours... honestly i don't know... a lot, but thats not important, i like doing that, i think i have more fun fixing it and i still work on it sometimes changing this and that, thats all part of the hobby.

I'm doing 2 Playboys currently and had the same issue with the stencils but Jeff from Classic Arcades has some listed on eBay. Just search for "playboy stencil" and you should see them.
Only 3 sets left as of today.
I'll post my resto when it's done.

#48 11 years ago

Almost forgot...
Very nice job Beatmaster!
I'm hoping mine comes out as good.

I also repro'ed the cards in the head and cabinet so I would have nice white ones in there instead of the crappy brown/yellow they turn into.
It seems a lot of us have the same ideas when restoring a pin. I added some detailing inside the cabinet similar to your's and Mike's (pinballmike).
I have played Mike's and it is beautiful. Plays like butter with the CPR PF and looks amazing in person.

I was going to clear my cabinet as well but was afraid it would look too glossy and then I saw this posting. It looks great in the photos!
How do you like the look of the finished product? Do you think you would do it again?

#49 11 years ago

Wow, awesome job! I can only hope mine looks this good some day!
