My adventure with pinballs started around year 2000. I started to play Timeshock on my PC.. or maybe I just had it. My dad (a pinball fan) decided to buy this game. He played it all time and I hated it - yes, pinballs were annoying me and I didn't wan't to play them. But some time later I bacame better player, we started comparing our scores with other players in internet  (which was very nice) and Timeshock standed as our favourite game. Unfortunately, anythink is eternal, I got skateboard and other hobbys - that's why I forgot about pinballs. Then, suddenly after a few years (around 2005) my dad bought our first pinball - Firepower. He said it's a legend and he spent a lot of time playing it. Fortunately it was damaged. Why fortunately? Because when we were looking for mechanic, somebody let us know about incoming Polish Pinball Championship (it was the 5th edition). I actually didn't want to participate, but finally decided to play. And I think it was one of my best decisions in life - I was 3rd. It was the great success for me to get 3rd position after playing only Timeshock. My dad was 2nd, so he was still better. We met then so many people, who love pinballs, that we also wanted to help developing pinballs in Poland. Our collection was growing, and in it's best times it counted 17 machines. We were restorating them and selling - to show more people how cool pinballs are. In 2007 we also started in Polish Pinball Championship and I was 3rd again ;-). And finally I became better than my dad - he was 4th. By accident I found myself on Pinball Rankings. It was so great feeling. I wrote to Josh, and became Country Director of IFPA. Then the idea of creating my own pinball site was born. You can visit my site here: www.pinballnews.za.pl (also in english). In the same time IFPA 5 was advertising on rankings site. So I wrote to our two best players about it. The didn't want to come, so me and my dad were qualified. I started to look for a sponsor for our trip. And it was the best thing for me, when they accepted my request - Economic Chamber of Gambling etc. and Interplay magazine supported us with tickets to Las Vegas! We officially standed as IFPA 5 participants. That was very exciting for us both, to play with the best players in the world; to visit Pinball Hall of Fame; to play the newest pinballs; to became as polish repesentatives. When we came back, we organised our own (2nd in Poland) Championship. 20 participants came (from all country), and winner won pinball Fire!. I was 2nd this time, which made me very happy. Now we're preparing to other competitions and we'd like to develop pinball playing idea in Poland even more. Now we have only 4 machines - Creature from The Balck Lagoon, White Water, Firepower and Space Invaders in not-working condition.

Great story. I'm not familiar with Timeshock. I thought it might be that awful Windows pack-in game, but no. I did a search and found:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pro_Pinball:_Timeshock!
    http://www.gamespot.com/pc/puzzle/propinballtimeshock/index.html

Video pinball isn't pure of course, but I remember being hopelessly addicted to one called "Pinball Fantasies" back in the early 1990's.

That's a great collection your family has! Creature, WW and Space Invaders ?! I hope to have such a good stable one day...

I too had an addiction to Timeshock, great game for a video, however I see mame or video as a good thing if thats what will help pinball stay alive another great addition is Williams hall of fame on the wii, 10 great tables for 30 bucks- sure beats 10-15k.

I didn't know there were so many pinball championships around the world. I'll have to see if there are any near me.
