I'm just settling in to my new life in Folsom California, having recently moved from Colorado. The best part to date was my new friend Andy exclaiming "Man room...?! How do you get a Man Room?!"
I love pinball, and had been playing since I was a little kid. We had a small EM machine in my basement growing up, and I played the heck out of it. As the SS machines started appearing at the local arcade, I quickly fell in love. My first love -- Cyclone. I could hit that ramp over and over and over again. YES! Then I moved on to Taxi, and Space Shuttle, then Whirlwind, and Twister, and oh my... Theater of Magic. Fun, fun!
In college, my wife (then girlfriend) and I used to take study breaks from the tedious engineering classes to play a game or two in the arcade at the Union building on campus. It was a daily event. We used to play for about an hour on $0.75, and often needed to abandon games to run off to class. We would play Theater of Magic time and again. Even when a few parts were not functioning perfectly, it was still fun. We enjoyed playing pinball together so much so that we both sighted our times playing in our wedding vows.
My wife and I both enjoy playing pool in college too. A few years back, we bought our second house in Erie Colorado, with only one specific requirement... A room large enough to hold a pool table. The house was perfect. It had a FANTASTIC view of the Rocky Mountains, and a great loft at the top of the stairs, just large enough to hold an 8' pool table. We closed on the house the day before Thanksgiving, and the day after Thanksgiving the pool table was delivered.
When I moved to California, the tradition continued. We found a fantastic place, only one mile from the office, and oh my, the loft! The house is 2 story house, where the second floor is simply one large room with a full bathroom attached, perfect for the pool table, and a whole lot more. Shortly after moving in, we installed a fantastic Hickory hardwood floor, and had the pool table set-up. Awesome... Just plain awesome. Only one problem... The room was so large, we didn't have enough furniture to fill it. My "Man Room" is just starting to take shape.
After the pool table was installed, my wife and I were looking at the room, deciding how best to fill the space. I suggested that we could install a bar, and a fridge, and maybe a flat screen on one wall, when my wife reminded me of our college times by saying "we could get a pinball machine." Oh, how I fell in love all over again. Oh wait, it just gets better... I said, "yeah, but we will both quickly tire of waiting for the other to finish their game." To which she replied, "Why don't we just get two? I mean, we have the room..." I'm telling you, she's the greatest woman on the planet.
The search began, and hence my introduction to Pinside. (Great site, by the way!) I've learned many things about the science of rating pinballs, noting the elements I liked about past games, and comparing them to others' notes. This great site helped me to narrow the field, and not pick up a dud.
So, now you all can see my "Man Room" (Well, as you all can tell, it's more than just my room, but I sure like the ring of "Man Room!"), and my two new loves. Now, I'm just trying to figure out which one will be #3, and where I'm going to fit it!

Wow, that's a great looking gameroom, I love the "old" looks of the pool table, it's kind of classic. My brother and I always wanted to get a pool table in our gameroom, but they are so darn big. It would cost us too much room (we would have to give up like 8 machines), so not really an option. But your gameroom looks pretty good and your wife.. She sounds like a wise woman ;-)
