Two weeks ago we brought you the first pictures of the latest upcoming pinball experience by Stern: Terminator 3. As time goes by more details reach us from across the big blue.
Pinball News reports us that the machine is now on test in Chicago, so if you have some time and money to spare... The full report of Pinball News can be found here.
Some more pictures were brought to our attention by Pinsider Alex. Alex also notified us of this first review featuring pictures of Steve Ritchie himself working on the machine.
As you can see these pictures show far more detail than the ones we showed you two weeks ago and a first look justifies comparisons with T2, the other successful Terminator adoption by Steve Ritchie. And although the upper part of the playfield seems a bit more packed than what we have come to expect from Mr. Ritchie, my first impression is that the pin in this designer's best tradition promises fast game play (check out those metal ramps) and demands very good reflexes from us eager players.
Furthermore the gun, the iron skeleton head and the industrial look and feel of the former game are back and they even give us far more Arnie this time, with his head not only painted on the back glass and the playfield, but even as a 'nice' doll head a la Road Show (he looks kind of moody and a lot less friendly than Red and Ted though). If this is a good or a bad thing I'll leave completely up to you.
Anyway, we Pinsiders can't wait to lay our hand on one of these babies, so hopefully Sterns pinball machines will keep finding their way to the Netherlands. We will keep you posted.

Seems cool... the backbox bonus game reminds me of my old Stern Catacomb

I added a new link to this article where a cool review can be found. If you know of a good link about the T3 adding new information yourself, please feel free to add it to the site, people.

I played this at the local pinball distributer, and I was disappointed in the game play. Just a lot of ramps to shoot, not much else. The grenade launcher in the backglass is a nice feature, but not that exciting once activated. You basically try to shoot 5 or 6 taregets at varying heights. I rate this a 7.5 out of 10. More hype than anything else...

I just played T3 pinball at a shop in NY, and I have to agree with you, rsullivan. It was just a watered-down, hyped-up version of T2 !

I played T3 at the Hoyts 8 Cinema in Christchurch, New Zealand a few weeks back. I got the 22 million replay on my first game. The replay then went to 44 million next game then 66 after I got 44 mil. The soundtrack had good bass and Arnie's voice had good intonation. The "RED" mode was a good example of pinball's archetypal "flashing lights".
The left ramp shot if made a fraction too late will send the ball straight down the right outlane. That cost me a bit of money! My top score was 132,000,000
The machine attracted a lot of attention, especially from people from Asian countries.
A wide range of age groups played it as well as boyfriends/husbands vs girlfriends/wives.
The backbox feature was a great idea and worked well.
This machine will do well.

Bjorn.......I live in New Zealand too. You'll find T3 at The Force Center in Auckland and Hoyts 8 Cinema in Christchurch. If when you get to these locations they have moved ring Coin Cascade NZ. They'll tell you where they are. That's how I first found out.
As for New Zealand getting new machines, I've been in contact with the guys at Coin Cascade NZ and they are well aware of the pinball following worldwide and in NZ.
Right now they have the T3 featured on their website so I'm sure they'll get the next STERN machine.......hopefully "Lord of the Rings".
Email me on pinballpilgrimage@hotmail.com if you'd like more info on pinball in NZ as I am part of a NZ-wide pinball group who help each other out via email on the fixing, locating, buying, selling of machines and anything else pinball related. Cheers, Nick

"Lord of the Rings" by Stern is still a rumour at this stage. If anyone hears of anything more concrete please email Pinball_World@hotmail.com. Thank you.

If you look closely at a T3 pinball machine you'll probably notice it's been played a lot. I think this game has probably made a fair return for operators. Any comments?
