This is a game which I constantly referred to as Steve Ritchie's weakest design and that was a huge oversight on my part.

In terms of layout this game is very good and has very satisfying shots. The left ramp, drop shot off of the mini-playfield and the center scoop shots are the ones that feel best to hit. By the way, the mini-playfield is one of the best I've seen so far. It doesn't take up too much space and yet you can actually controll the ball pretty smoothly.

My only complaint is that there are stop posts on the ramps which aggressively deny the creation of any flow. It is very unlike Steve Ritchie but I think it was only implemented so the player can see which cards are being dealt out.

The rules are relatively deep and quite good but compared to other SAM system games like Spider-man they seem pretty basic. Playing the Ace in the Hole multiball is fun though, especially because it can actually help you advance through the cities. After a while the game gets a bit repetitive as you hear the same stuff over and over again.

The artwork on the cabinet and backglass is alright but the playfield looks like something Sega would've come up with. The entire artwork can be described as alright at best, except for the animations which are pretty good.

All in all, this is a good machine with a nice layout, deep ruleset and one of the best mini-playfields out there.

The artwork category kills this machines rating. A poker theme isn't for me, but the theme is executed well.

The gameplay is pretty good though. I don't care for upper playfields but this one works and makes up for the fan layout below which I don't care for. It would have been cool if one of the modes would require a little more sniper shooting the drops... like they reset if you don't hit a particular hand. It's a fun machine. I'm glad I own it, but I won't keep it forever.

Good Game With 13 Drop Targets. Ugly Backglas. Fun.

I'm glad people are starting to enjoy WPT, as it is definitely a winner in my book and pretty overlooked in general. Value is insane for what you get here, from the team involved to really most everything else.

PROS:
-Gameplay is really great. The huge number of drop targets are always fun, the multiple multiball options are lucrative and worth shooting for
-The Texas Hold 'Em theme is so well represented here, and the Flop-Turn-River thing is clever.
-DMD in the playfield is so cool--amazed more pins didn't have this too!
-Love the upper playfield not being so dominant as in other games and having some unique ins and outs/uses
-Callouts are generally quite good. Actual WPT hosts' voiceovers are a really nice touch.
-Value!
-Sounds and animations are great and really engaging. How effectively and accurately they'll use soundbites like, "A king gets you a pair" or whatever based on what targets you're hitting is SUPER immersive.

CONS:
-Perhaps one of the worst backglasses/translites of all time. It's so, so bad.
-Can get a little repetitive
-Impossible to lose a hand if you make all the shots (makes sense, but hearing Mike say "Player wins with...7 high" and seeing the fireworks with "YOU WON THE ARUBA TOURNAMENT") is pretty laughable given how this isn't a parody game at all

I am 100% going to own a WPT at some point. That value, again, is ridiculous for what you get here. Until very recently, I didn't even know this was a Steve Ritchie game and I've been playing it since it came out. Big fan! Now just to find a different translite...

WPT is one of the most tremendous "value-games" I have found; Stern SAM platform (dependable), 4 flippers, upper PF, Steve Richie design, great rules, and 16 drop targets! It plays on the longer side, but is both rewarding and deep enough that it makes for a good home-gameroom pin. I love nailing the 180-degree left-ramp, which can be challenging. Art work is a weak link, but gameplay makes up for it. All-in-all, it's a solid game that can be had for $3-4k.

I knew how popular this game is among owners and it still surprised me when I got to figure it out. The backglass might not be a work of art, the ruleset certainly is! And the playfield shoots amazingly well in all its simplicity. A design SR can be proud of.

I added some general illumination and Britecaps on mine and gave it the full led + led ocd treatment, which makes a big difference in the experience.

The original music lacks a bit in variety. I've created my own custom soundtrack, which really fits the game much better.

The reason I eventually sold mine was that this machine and LotR do not make a great pair (too similar). LotR won on artwork and theme.

This game gets some things right but misses so hard on others. It plays OK, the upper playfield stinks. Doesn’t really feel like poker like it could since it tries to push the cards and making a hand aspect. Poorly lit especially for its generation.

Pretty crappy theme and I had no interest in this game until I got hooked playing it locally. I am not quite sure what it is but I love shooting this game. The playfield is pretty open and most of the shots are way back. They look easy but require a fair amount of accuracy to hit reliably because they are so far way but very satisfying when you hit them, particularly the left ramp. Rules are deep but accessible and every game is a little different. Upper playfield is fun and there is a lot of do.

My first pin, haven’t played many but bought this as the code is deep and now quite flowy with the flop and turn post disabled. Plays fast and very challenging when keeping balls going on the upper and lower playfield. Art let’s it down but theme integration is good, modes have some variety. Non pinheads like it and understand that you can start an easy multiball aiming for the ace in the hole. Will be keeping for a while. Enjoy this more than FG which I’ve played a lot. Not as good as SM or Tron- but cost a lot less.

I had one for a couple of years that I bought NIB for only 2600 (they were selling cheap!) and was reasonably fun but it got kind of old. Felt like all those drop targets weren't used enough as a big massive goal in a mode, where you're trying to complete them all vs. hitting certain ones. The playfleld LED display is great and loved how it took advantage of the pf backboard with all the incredible mechs back there. Gambling aspect was more random, should have had some kind of risk-taking rewards similar to JackBot. Could never fix the center drop targets 'bricking' which I found extremely annoying even with some modifications. Good but not great.

I feel this is a very underrated game from a shooters perspective. It has a great fan layout in the same ilk as an AFM, MM, or Lotr for that matter. It plays nice and fast when set to the right pitch. The upper playfield is great, I love the transparency to see the pop bumpers underneath. It has some nice multiballs and personally like games where I can whip around the orbits. The ramp shots are fun, the right rampMcad be hard to hit at times. The game is loaded with drop targets, and an on playfield display where you keep track of your hold’em hand.
The game is well-themed and uses the voices from the episodes. The backglass is a good but it’s a little overly softened and posterized, overly so in my opinion. It just feels like it could be crisper. The cabinet and playfield art look great, as well as the silver trim and black powder coated trim. I know a lot of guys with nice collections that have this game and love it. They’re in the same boat as me, underrated for sure. The price point of where it trades and it’s book value is a steal. Considering there were 3k produced at some point, I think this is a classic stern that is poised to appreciate.

After owning this machine for a while, I can say it definitely gets old after owning it for a while. Rules are nice and deep, but it starts to feel more like work when playing compared to actually having fun discovering new modes. The game is just "okay".

The art sucks, but everything else is pure goodness. This has lots of shots and non-stop fun. It is a criminally underrated game that I'm sure will go up once enough people figure out how truly great it is.

Its really only two ramps that you have to hit to advance. I must be missing something.

The biggest flaw with this machine is not the game play, it's the back glass. The shots are long, but fair and once you figure out the rules, it easy to follow what you should be shooting for. The upper playfield is fun and different than most. The game plays pretty fast too. The poker theme may not be for everyone and the back glass is this game's biggest blemish.

I picked up this game unsure of how long I would keep it but I am really surprised at how much I enjoy it. Shots are decent with a mini upper playfield, drop target are implemented well to get different poker hands to start a multiball. 2 spinners! Who doesn’t like a spinner? Wide open playfield with some long shots. Rules are pretty deep and work in a home environment. Art package is awful! First thing i did was change the backglass. Looks like its staying for awhile.

I played this yesterday for the 1st time in years. I was confused by the game because there was no rules card on this machine. For example, I would hit a playing card drop target, thinking I would have earned that card on my opening hand but you don’t. I couldn’t quite figure out how to do certain things, but I had still fun. I liked there were lots of shots to pick from. The upper mini playfield did not excite me like some of other reviewers here. But overall, I think I would have liked this pin more, if I understood the game’s rules.

WPT is not the best looking pin, but its a pleasure to play. Shots are great when you make them and its overall a good playing pin. I will keep this one around for awhile

Once I first started playing this pin I was very impressed by the depth of the rules. I wanted to keep playing and playing this machine, but after some time it started to feel really slow.

Because of the big open play field, all your shots are 'long' and there are no 'timed' shots. You need to stack your mode with your multiball to get some points and since you have to keep setting this up it will not be as entertaining for the occasional player. For a tournament player this machine is very challenging

This does not feel like a Ritchie pin at all. Wide open playfield with tons of drops, and upper playfield with an interesting toy. Game has a lot going on, and can be a turn off for casual players, as the rules are very deep, and time to understand what is going on. Translight is not the best, rest of the art is ok, lighting is serviceable and call outs and dmd animations get the job done. Multiple wizard modes is a big plus.

Game is definitely geared towards players.

First to mention: I love the Ace in a hole like no other toy in pinball ...
The rules are top notch and the colours on the playfield are fresh while playing. The callouts on WPT give you a real feeling of a Poker Tournament. WPT plays fast and defly has the one more game feel to me ...
