My Junkyard thoughts......I like it.....

Forget what some people say and DONT write this game off.

I enjoy this title - it is VERY different in it's theming and also in the audio dept.

It will ‘sound' ridiculous when you just read about how the game plays , but if you get to play this title then just play the game and just live with the strange themes and you will hopefully enjoy a pinball machine that has a superbly open playfield and therefore some REALLY nice looooooooooooooooong shots.

The game has 4 modes and then a FINAL mode called Outer Space.

The main aim is to collect 10 pieces of JUNK in order to build a ‘jalopy' to use to fight Bob the Junkyard owner in Outer Space by shooting fireworks at him.

Fireworks are collected along the way from various rewards, as are pieces of toast that you use in Save the Girl video mode to shoot from your Toaster Gun ( I told you this game was crazy ). Collecting various pieces of the junk along the way combines to allow you to start one of the 4 modes, until eventually you collect all 10 pieces of junk and have access to start Outer Space after completing the 4 other modes.

Along the way you have to shoot the ball into a doghouse on the right of the playfield to enter 2 different video modes, 3 shots to The Alley ramp return the ball quickly to the right flipper and spell D-O-G, after that The Alley Ramp diverts the ball to Spikes doghouse and you start one of 2 video Modes - Run From Spike or Save The Girl.

Next to The Alley shot is a sink-hole shot that can be lit for Extra Ball and also to start the Time Machine amongst other things - Time Machine is one of the coolest things in a pinny I have seen for a while, Time Machine starts a DMD display of a time counter ( think of the Delorean in BTTF movies ) - it scrolls for a while and ‘lands'' on a certain date.....there are 4 dates available. Depending on the date ( year ) you land on, the game then gives you a mode to play from a pinball in THAT year - Eg modes are Move Your Car from CFTBL, Saucer Attack video Mode from RFM

On the left of the playfield are 2 ramps - the furthest left puts the ball into a toilet , this is where you build your Jackpot values to be collected in one of the Modes called the Great Toilet Adventure........the groaning sounds made by the game while your ball goes ‘down the toilet' are quite good, and funny. The inner left ramp loops around to the Magic Bus where you collect Random Awards.

Top of playfield is the main ‘toy' - the Wrecking Ball.

This , and the targets that surround it are used to spell Multiball on the DMD , the Wrecking Ball lifts and a shot into the centre shot behind the ball starts a 3 ball Multiball Mode.

The Wrecking ball and centre shot are also used a Crane Hurry Up and to start the 2 Ball Crane Multiball mode.

This is a very good game to play that has a little bit of depth ( sure it aint too deep - they cant ALL be super deep games ) , it has just enough to do , in my collection it makes a nice break to playing my other titles like TSPP,WH20 as its a game you can just RELAX and play... I agree with many that cant understand why they didn't put a set of pop bumpers in the upper left hand corner where the space exists for them.

The audio is strange as it has an Angel and a Devil in the game and each talk to you throughout the game, indicating what you should do next at times......and don't always assume that the Angel is being honest.

the machine is a drain monster. i think it's cheaply made. the designer couldn't even make the fonts for the scores consistent. i have played a lot of pins at shows and it is one of the pins that you play once and never return for a 2nd game. there is one in a neighborhood restaurant. so we play it a lot because there's no alternative. it's the worst pin the operator ever put in there. it sucks. we like pinball so much that we feed that piece of junk quarters. they should rename it JUNK. sorry dude, i know it yours and you have an attachment to it but it's not very good.

I had a ton of fun playing this back in the 90s. I haven't played one in a long time though and wondering what I would think now.

if you dislocate yourself from nostalgia and play it as it is, it's a poor machine. i have played it well over a hundred times. every company has stinkers, even williams. it's this quality that probably accelerated the demise of pinball and the dominance of video games.

Gotta say, I love playing junkyard. The theme is interesting and the shots are fun. I would put one in my basement for sure.

I also find junkyard a fun machine to play. Its different and that's a good thing. I think its underrated and also its unfair of people to comment on someones story about how this game sucks. If you don't like it, don't play it and save some for the rest of us.

I owned Junkyard for 6 years and enjoyed it immensely!!

The collection of other video modes, time machine, and the great wrecking ball to mess with your shots!

To be fair, I have played other Junkyards. When crisp and tight....a joy.
When others play OK, they can lack the zip of the repeated ramp shots, and crane movement. Like any game, much much better when playing on a good restore.....Id love to get another one!

We had this at the arcade for years, and it was well received. I really enjoyed how nuts it was. I kindof miss it.

i think medieval gofers and others like him are ridiculous that believe only people who have positive opinions should comment. i guess he nevers says anything bad about anything. i would never value the opinion from someone who thinks like that. it's a shallow game. after you go to outer space and fight crazy bob there's really nothing left. it doesn't take long to get there either. it's a lame game and only made for arcades. the depth of game play is shallow. when i think of all the great bally and williams games and compare it to this it looks bad. if someone gets their feelings hurt by another person's opinion. they shouldn't post anything.

Maybe not the deepest game, but well waxed and set up right, it's not easy IMO. I think it's a fun game and really enjoy the audio and DMD on it as well as collecting junk and trying to beat Bob. Shooting the dog with toast is funny and not real easy as it advances to the higher levels. Love the tributes in a few of the modes to other games including AFM and Creech.
